Strangers are just friends you haven't met yet

So I had a very trying day running insurance forms around the city (yes, forms I should have delt with 2 weeks ago) on my break. My 'break' got extended to 2 hours as I firstly, missed every bus I would need and for some idiotic reason decided to walk it, and then when I arrived at the Hys it turns out the form isn't quite right. And the secretary is a pissy bitch. Really, don't get a job in a surgeon's office if your are not willing to show some empathy or at least basic human emotion to people undergoing traumatic times in their lives.

In any case, I also had to get $40 out of a generic atm as the doc's office only takes cash or cheque. (Example of annoyingness of receptionist: R-That'll be $40. Z-Do you take debit? R-No. Z-Do you take Visa? R-No. Z-How can I pay? R-Cash or cheque. Do you HAVE any cheques?) After finding an atm I proceeded to freak out a teeny bit as it was not this complicated last Jan. for his first surgery, and decided to call home and ask if what the sec. was saying was correct. At about this time I also realized that I was supposed to be back at work right then, and decided to call work. But we don't have cell phones.

So I searched the building for a pay phone, or even a friendly office that would let me borrow theirs for a minute. There are no friendly offices on that building. Even the security desk was unmanned. Finally I saw the line at the pharmacy had gone down and popped in there to ask where a pay phone was. Nearest one - hospital 3 blocks away. However the long lost security guard was flirting with the pharmacist and said, "Hey, aren't you Keith's girlfriend? Here, use my phone."

Awesome.

He used to work for GW and recognised me from my haranguing face outside the store window as I implored Keith to finish up with his little toys and come home. I'm glad he's moved up in the world, and it was certainly useful to me.
