Chinese First Name & Reference Materials Question

Hey, zhongwen !

I took Mandarin Chinese in college and in the second semester, my professor gave us each a Chinese surname (mine was 范 Fàn). I wanted to go a step further and get a first name as well, and I went to a naming website just for kicks (I know full well that's SO NOT a good idea, but I was really excited  ^_^;;;). When I was looking to naming my daughter, numerous people told me that having a rhyming family name and given name is not ideal; e.g. "Fan" and "An". It's not a dealbreaker by any means, of course.

范安声 is a valid Chinese name, and it doesn't look specific for which gender. Some people might feel the alignment of two 'n' sounds making this name a little hard to call, but it really looks fine.

In my opinion, it's fine - and nowadays there are a lot of Chinese people calling their children things that don't mean anything apart from it sounding nice, so at least yours has got meaning.
