weekend, fun stuff, Carl Kasell

So yesterday I went to a luncheon for corporate and non-profit supporters of a local public radio station (the office lotto for tickets fell to me this time), and the result was that I got to hear a great speech, see a funny magic show, and meet Carl Kasell.  He is a lovely man. No, I didn't ask him to record a message for me on my phone.  Hahaha ( Read more... )

So I was at home yesterday and my sister was rewatching Caspian, which reminded me that I owed you a comment!

I think my issue with the movie was the movement of MASSIVE BATTLE SCENES OF AWESOME to a central place, when in fact there's not much battle in the book.

Heh, see my issue was that there was no battle in the book! Pretty much the exact opposite of your issues actually. ;) I think the fact that the book was pretty much just wondering around made me go, yes, okay, lovely, WHERE IS YOUR PLOT C.S. LEWIS?

My other beef with the film, although I did like it very much despite this, was the way they shifted Peter and created a false rivalry between him and Caspian.

I think it's Peter freaking the fuck out about the fact that he missed all this time in Narnia, and now he's been replaced by this upstart *Telmerain* and this isn't *his* Narnia, and now he needs to set everything to rights, but he has to do it perfectly, because, well, that's what High King Peter (the Magnificent) would do, isn't it? Yeah, I can fanwank it, but I agree that I shouldn't have to.

And that kid playing him is awesome.

CHARLES DARWIN'S GREAT, GREAT, (GREAT?)GRANDSON. He comes by his awesomeness honestly.

THAT IS A FANDOM ALL ITS OWN, RIGHT THERE.
faaaaabulous.

Yeah, I agree with your insight into Peter's motivations. :) Could have been awesome, but it was just a little bit off.

I am just looking forward to Dawn Treader. I look forward to more Edmund, and discovering Eustace. :)

DUDE. DUDE. DUDE. I went looking at his Wiki page because I remembered that he was related to someone else famous, only I couldn't remember who AND HE IS SO AWESOME YO. And it was John Maynard Keynes. Who I couldn't remember.

Could have been awesome, but it was just a little bit off.

I think they started him out too angry. I mean, if you're already getting in fights in the first scene of a children's movie and the idea is to GET ANGRIER, well, you've pretty much run out of room already. And they kicked off the whole Caspian/Peter (ALAS THEY HAVE NO CHEMISTRY EVEN IF THEY ARE BOTH REALLY PRETTY) fight before they even had motivation, so again it's like: "I AM SO ANGRY WITH YOU. SO ANGRY! Who are you again? OH. YOU. SO ANGRY!!!" Too quick guys, too quick.

I am just looking forward to Dawn Treader. I look forward to more Edmund, and discovering Eustace. :)

Likewise!

ETA: Because I can link things, I swear.
