Last night, the hot and humid air from our first real summery day settled down to a dead calm.  That's when the fireflies emerged, hovering and drifting just above the ground.  There were so many of them, with their shifting web of chemical glow, it looked as if the stars had fallen to Earth.  There are no words to describe it.  My daughter might ( Read more... )

 
Emilia is obsessed with worms.  She loves to hunt for them outside.  When she finds one, she examines it closely, noting all of its natural features.  However, with the recent dry (and beautiful) spring warmth, we are in a worm drought.  Last evening, Emilia was in the driveway again, scanning the dried-up depressions for worms.
