Chalk the Block

So finally, after three years of missing out on this event I finally submitted something to Chalk the Block! Chalk the Block is a downtown festival where selected artists from high school to professional level draw with chalk on the sidewalks in designated areas. There's music, vendors, food, you know typical festival stuff. I haven't been able to attend to any of them because something always comes up. And after their first year, I've been meaning to apply to their Call to Artists, but again things came up. Not this year though. This year I finally made the application deadline. I still need to be judged and see if I even get to participate at all. Even if I am not selected I will make the extra effort to go check it out. I mean, come on! It's drawing with chalk outside on public property! Tell me, what beats that?

If I do get in, it's going to be a challenge. For one, I'm on my own. Ha-ha, I have no team! I kind of do wish I did have people helping me, but sadly I'm one of those people who doesn't work too well with others when it comes to my art. They'd have to be people who really know what I'm trying to achieve and will not feel bad if I come into their space and change things completely. Another thing that will make this a challenge is that I will only have 7 hours to work on a 6 ft x 5 ft area. And from what I can tell, it's going to a be a bricked surface. The good thing is that if you have your sketch, you are just transferring information over to a bigger scale.

I hope I get selected. I love drawing with chalk in my backyard. Well, my parents' backyard. It's so much fun! I think we should all go out and do some chalk art guys. I can't right now because it's been raining. Hooray!

art, fun, el paso
