Masks and comics

Back in 2007 my mom asked if I could help her out by making twelve large masks for a play at a women's retreat. Eleven of the twelve were to represent sins/bad habits and one to represent happiness and joy. I admit that at first I was unhappy the committee picked me to draw these up, but in the end I'm glad I did. It was fun, and hey I almost died completing them. Seriously, I did. Makes for a fun story! Anyway, I never got pics of them until now. They are all the same face template and just changed the features and hair. No blondes or red heads because A) I wasn't going to use my good markers on these. One marker wouldn't even color up 1/4 of the hair. B) The cheap markers I did buy had nasty streaky yellow, orange, and red markers. C) Black and brown markers a plenty and easy to cover up.

These things are pretty big, The top of an average adult head would be a little atop of the tip of the nose. Lust, Idolatry, and Gluttony were my favorite to draw.

Aside from old art, I bought comics today! I hardly ever do that anymore since I usually buy graphic novels from on-line stores or Barnes & Noble. It's funny because the last time I stepped into this particular shop was a little over five years ago. It was the second time I met JC, and Claudia and I used up our paychecks to buy lots of comics on Free Comic Book Day. Crazy, huh?

Hmm, reading back on that old entry made me wonder: What the heck happened to that Jack-in-the-Box antenna ball?
