Going to try to make this one quick.
Finished Reading: The Life of Elves by Muriel Barbery. Apparently, there's to be a sequel to this one. Anyway, like I've mentioned previously, the language used is lovely; major props to the translator - I bet it's even better in French. As for the novel itself... uh. Well. I feel as if I was eating an entire bowl of handmade marshmallows. Delicious, but not a lot actually... there. I did find it interesting enough that I'll probably read the second book - if I remember. But you know what would be awesome? Illustrations based on this. Or like, a comic version of it, or a picture book, or... you get the idea. I bet it'd be gorgeous in art form.
Currently Reading: Yamoria The Lawmaker: Stories of the Dene by George Blondin. This one is partially a collection of stories (oral stories told by Dene elders, and written down by the author, who is a Dene elder himself), partially a history book, partially a discussion of Dene culture and spiritualism. It's a pretty cool book, actually, and a nice quick read, though there are some parts that I think I'll want to go back and re-read so that I can think about them some more. Originally, I picked this one up because I want to write a SSSS fic set in northern Alberta, centring around Dene characters, and I didn't really know where to start. It hasn't answered all my questions - far from it - but at least I have some ideas of where to go next.
Reading Next: Drum Songs: Glimpses of Dene History by Kerry Abel is definitely next. Since it'll probably be a bit difficult to get through, I might also pick up something trashy to read so that my brain can decompress, though I'm not quite sure what.
