Not even a week into the busy season, and I'm already feeling like a chicken running around with its head cut off. Well then. That sure is something.
Quick book details:
Currently reading Black and White Cinema: A Short History by Wheeler Winston Dixon. It's a general overview, but more than anything else, it spends a lot of time talking about black and white cinematography. It's pretty interesting, but the main thing that I've taken away from this is that I know not nearly enough about black and white films, the history of cinema, and cinematography in general (let alone from the black and white era).
I must fix this. Watch all the films! Read all the books about cinema! Yeahhhh! Well, okay, not everything, but... I'll see what the library has. And consult my list of Old Stuff That I Want To Watch At Some Point.
Aaaand like an idiot, I haven't been writing down all of the titles mentioned in this book that sound like things I would want to check out. Doing that would make too much sense. But then again, if I did do that, it would be a very long list.
In particular, this book has reminded me that I haven't seen nearly enough b&w horror. I've seen... hmm... Nosferatu, Caligari, Les Diaboliques, and Les Yeux Sans Visage. Maybe one or two others that I'm forgetting, too. All of those were excellent, but it's not nearly enough! Gotta' fix that. (Edit: Oh, I've also seen Häxan, which was... weird. And technically not a horror film, even if I've seen it pop up in a lot of horror lists.)
