Shinchousa no Nai Koibito - Lyrics and Translation
I've had the "How's It Going" album playing almost constantly in the background these past few days, and there's some really good stuff on it! I love "Shinchousa". It talks about the awkward insecurities of young love, and the scenarios brought up in the lyrics are absolutely adorable. It's a song that grown up Arashi wouldn't be able to sing now, without sounding a bit silly.

The title
Yep, it sounds awkward, but then again, it sounds awkward in Japanese as well.
Stanza 1
Not quite happy with my translation of "todoketeru" here. The dictionary translation would be "to send, to deliver, to escort." And that's kind of what it means, but I'm having a hard time rendering it into English. I've translated it into "right on through." The basic gist is "seeing on through till". . . I need to chew on this one for a little bit. Will revise and improve later.
Stanza 2 & 3
Not really a translation note, but can I just take a moment to flail at the adorable quotient here in reference to the high heels and the sneakers? Awww, he feels guilty when she looks at high heels because he feels he's not tall enough. She wears flats (sneakers) to make him feel better. AWWWWWWWW!!!!
Stanza 3
Odd Japanese phrasing here, "gyuunyuu kande nonde nenasai". The litera translation is: "chew and drink your milk before going to sleep." Again, you see why I don't do direct translations.
Stanza 4
My translation: "Is limitless, a distance far wider than my outspread arms"
Sorry, wordy and clunky as hell, I know. I've had to add a little to convey the meaning. Will revise later.
Stanza 6
There's a sudden change in perspective here. The singers are suddenly talking about the situation from the girlfriend's perspective: "Sister said Drink milk and work hard to increase your bust size". (I always laugh at the Japanese obsession with: "bust up", or how to make your boobs bigger. ^^;;;; The phrase for the concept makes me giggle.)
Stanza 7
A literal/direct translation of this stanza would have made absolutely no sense in English. There are a lot of "pretty" words and phrases used here to sound more formal and/or poetic, but are difficult/impossible to convey in English. Apologies for the artistic license taken here. But I love the imagery in this stanza! I'm still not quite happy with this stanza's translation, yet. . . will continue to revise.
