Okawari!!

Released about a week ago, I got HALCALI's new album today, and so far I love all the songs. Literally, ALL of them. It may change with time, but right now I'm mesmerized. If music isn't absolutely great in some tracks - lyrics make up for it, if lyrics don't kill me at first listen - music does, and as an omake I get reference game on the level of rearranging Gondola no uta into a true masterpiece of randomness and renewed post-shibuya-kei.

I always liked them, but now I'm starting to love them, because somehow, despite being always on the verge of mainstream, they maintain just the amount of originality I absolutely need in my music, and combine the elements that *have to be there* in way that makes them easy to swallow for me (that would probably mean there's lots and lots of pretty much everything).

On a downside, is it just me or three previously released songs had to appear on the album exactly as they did before?.. All three of them are good tracks, and one (Strawberry Chips) even worked its way up to my yearly theme song status last year, regardless of the fact it was against the rules. But with 12 brand-new songs, I don't get why would anyone need fillers? And if they wanted to pump the album up to 15 so much, was it too much to ask to at least remix if not re-arrange and re-record these songs? Remastered maybe? You would probably have to view the spectrum to actually see the differences with your own eyes. If there are any, that is.

Aside from this little whine I couldn't stop myself from writing, the album is a masterpiece, and definitely worth having. That being said, it's not for everyone, of course. You may prefer to check this album out on youtube first, as it is messy, girly, and... oh, did I say renewed post-shibuya-kei? I meant it. And since it's HALCALI after all, don't forget some hip-pop.
