Aaaaaaand....

...on a less self-absorbed note...

A good friend, Lann The Shirtless (old SCA name; his incredibly nice wife makes him wear shirts now, I really should stop calling him that) ended up in the ER at a Huntsville, AL hospital yesterday with what looked like a stroke-- some facial paralysis, difficulties with balance, weakness, etc.  An MRI and a CT scan have been run and as of this morning's emails it's looking less like a stroke and more like Bell's Palsy or similar; man, I hope so.  Not that getting Bell's Palsy is good or anything, but it sure beats a stroke.

Lann and Abby are darlings; I wish them all the best in the world.  My problems are minor, minor things compared to theirs.

Speaking of said minor problems... I'm gonna stay home from work today to see if I can get insurance and auto stuff squared away as much as possible.  I kind of hate to waste the leave-time, but if I can get my car in for an estimate, then all to the good.  I have a call in to the place I usually use for auto-work; dunno if they do body work as well, but if they don't then maybe they can rec somebody.

I'm being as philosophical (in the 'Shit Happens' school of philosophy) as possible about all this; Lann's in good hands-- I applaud his good sense in getting medical help as soon as possible-- Abby seems to be holding up (and I've offered any help I can give her) and I'm insured and Shouty Guy from the accident is insured.  I can deal.  This doesn't mean that I wouldn't have given practically anything for a hug last night... but I can deal.

LATER:  Okay, I've been through making a statement to the claims people and talking to a bodyworks shop and all, and it's probable that I'll be faulted in the accident purely because, no matter which lane Shouty Guy was in, I was the one moving across traffic and entering the lane the accident happened in and there were no witnesses available to refute my claim that he changed lanes.  Law goes with the flow of traffic; that's just the breaks.  -__-  I'm unhappy with this, but it's why I pay for insurance, so...  **sigh** I have to be at the bodywork place in an hour.

Still need that hug.  Right; time to act like a fucking adult and stop wanting to call my mom, I guess.  Could be worse.  Thanks to everybody for advice and commiseration.  Still waiting to hear more on Lann; Abby said she sent him info on Bell's Palsy-- gods, I hope that's what it turns out to be, that's treatable and with any luck also is curable.

aaack
