That. Was. Fucking. Amazing.
So,
spazhammer and Olivia collect myself and
jonthebloody, and his snazzy SatNav gets us to Leicester in record time, before being foxed by Leicester Council's abysmal use of roadworks. We ended up parking at Rutland Place (wherever that is) and wandering aimlessly, before giving up and getting a cab to the Charlotte. Wandered down the road to the Polar Bear Scream pub, to meet
shallowthing and
archenemy888, then to the Charlotte. Found they'd somehow screwed up my Paypal payment and only had me down for one ticket on the door, but they guy didn't argue and let us both in anyway :)
Support bands were 3 Stories High, who were living proof that it's beneficial to learn to play your instruments BEFORE you start jumping around with them. There was a guy stood with what looked like an etch-a-sketch in the corner. I can see how that band was formed:
"Guess what Brian, we've formed a new band!"
"Oh, cool, can I be in it"
"Well, er, ok, what can you do"
"Not much, but I've got pretty hair, and I'll get loads of girls to like us, plus I can design kickass MySpace profiles"
"Erm, alright, take this and stand in the corner. Try not to get in the way".
The second band were called Switch (I think), and had one decent guitarist, and three try hards. Still, I've seen worse.
Then the man himself. MC Lars, plus backing band, plus G4 Powerbook. Started with 'Hurricane Fresh', then 'Mr Raven'. Damned if I can remember the whole set, but it was all of the Laptop EP and most of the latest album, so no 'Rapbeth' :( (oh, and there was a new track called 'Hall Pass' which samples Ignite's 'Veteran', HOW FUCKING COOL?!). Team Safari stood towards the back of the room and bounced all the way through the set (Fran, you'd have seen *plenty* of silly dancing if you'd have turned round). He finished with 'Signing Emo' and 'iGeneration', then hung around to chat to fans and sign stuff. Bloody excellent gig, faultless. Got myself a copy of the Laptop EP as well.
So, that excitement over it was back to Notts, to bed, and today to work. People are utterly failing to convince me that the Sal tonight is a good thing, so instead I will be going for drinks with Kate, before maybe catching up with people if they decide to go somewhere good.
And in something almost entirely unrelated, does anyone have Babybird's 'Ugly Beautiful' and/or Stiltskin's 'The Mind's Eye' albums?
