So much heaven I know I'm heading for hell

That weekend was just what I needed. Well, sort of...

Friday then, was Cate's last night out before being shipped off to Texas for four months. In an effort to give her a decent send off we went drinking, taking in the Waterfront, Via Fossa and the Trip, before drunkenly deciding we needed food in Sinatras, finishing in the Orange Tree drinking Maker's Mark and holding up imaginary score cards to a young couple nervously flirting on the other side of the room. With the hour late, and Cate departed, I turned towards Forest Fields for vampiric_monkey's party. Here I drank more beer, more whiskey, and what I think was rum. I was at various points set up by Claire and pai_kitagowa, groped by noize_ghic and told once again by notgothdammit that I was going to have a sexy party at some point whether I like it or not.

Saturday, as evidenced by my previous post, was a lovely day deemed by all too nice to waste in the Arboretum. It was to this end I piled in a car with manniqueen_, vampiric_monkey and peskynymph, a second car of notgothdammit, noize_ghic, WeeGoth and TheDunc followed. Our destination was the much vaunted Tideswell Abbey, the 'Cathedral of the Peaks' (except it wasn't actually a cathedral. soldatengrab had promised us complete silence and views for miles, so we were a little disappointed to find nothing more than a pleasantly typical village of the Peak (it turned out later that there *was* somewhere with the view, etc, it just wasn't particularly near the church). Still, we picniced in the church yard, we found a playground and sports field, and we lounged and lazed, enjoying the sunshine and breathing fresh air. Rather nice day out really, and something I think we're hoping to repeat. For those of you who didn't know where I was talking about, here's the Heights of Abraham site.

Got back from our jaunt just in time to get ready and retrace our steps up the M1, this time with UoN RockSoc on their trip to the Sheffield Corporation. Seeing as Sheffield people were lame, I only managed to (briefly) catch up with spamsmolytic, which was a shame. Still, there was a quick drink in the Devonshire Cat (no Red Bull) before the club. Corp has got better, they've sorted the PA so it's not all bass, the music doesn't quite make me go postal (although it's far from cutting edge) and they have RED BULL ON TAP! Other than that it wasn't too spectacular. soldatengrab's sets went down fairly well, and I randomley bumped into JJ and Jules. Ephedra, Kick and Red Bull had made me very awake and aware of my surroundings, so to those of you who thought I was in a mood, I wasn't, I just wasn't talkative. Possibly the most fun I had was dancing with firefly_music to dubious nu metal upstairs. The journey back was surprisingly uneventful as well, even with the addition of shallowthing. Still, it's the usual cry of 'it beats Rock City'.

Sunday saw the now infamous UoN Liver & Brain Massacre BBQ, held on Portland Hill, and always a high point of the RockSoc social calendar. Master of Fire and Meat denatone took his customary position at the dual grills, utility belt at the ready, to cook an unending supply of meat products. Food aside there were the usual shennanigans. No Fight Club this year, despite Gareth's weaponry collection. No space hopper race with jellybearwhore either, seeing as there was only one. There was frisbee though, including the EPIC QUEST to retrieve the aerobie from the TREE OF DOOM, and football, where I even managed the first goal. A generally very pleasant afternoon. Following my weekend precedent of making journeys twice, I returned home then to get kit, and back to Beeston to bestow the gift of music upon pai_kitagowa's PC, finding time for a drinking with djsilverfox and flutteringfiend while I was there. Eventually I ended up at work, once again working the night shift, with Monty Python and Cantonese food for company.

And now I'm tired, and intend to go home and sleep.
