I went to get my bridesmaid dress yesterday and reinforced my suspicion that the wedding industry is a sham. First of all, why are brides forced to wear the least attractive of all colours? Second, who thought it was a cute idea to dress civilian adults in identical outfits? Third, bows on the clothes of anyone over the age of ten are lame.
I also discovered that I was not one, but two sizes smaller than what I am in regular clothes, which seems to be a silly practice of all "nice" clothes stores. I imagine the stores do this to make the customers happy ("Oh see, I've lost weight!"), but it is irksome if one's trying to take a logical approach to the matter. This nonsense is what comes of having women's sizes correspond to nothing at all.
I was also taken to task for needing the dress within two months. No dress takes two months to ship, so long as it doesn't have to be created from scratch. These dresses are mass produced! You have 240 stores around the country! I refuse to believe that not a single one of those stores, nor any of your warehouses, has a dress that simultaneously meets three criteria: the style, the size, and the colour I want. Highly ridiculous.
Disclaimer: The two people whose wedding is the cause of my dress expedition share none of the blame for this silly masquerade. They are both saints and remarkably sane for people trying to plan a wedding. May they survive to be actually married.
