club social - an utter failure? it felt that way at first! haha
met up with Hannah et al. at Courtyard. none of the Rounders girls - save the ones from Hannah's flat - turned up, eeek. made sense, in a way. middle of exam season, and you expect a bunch of people who don't know each other to take time and go out? not likely. we figure once their practices start, they'll be more sociable. anyway, Chris couldn't come out because he's a good person and worked on his essay instead. Mike, Gemma, and Jenny(?) ordered two cabs. they left in one of them, while Jack, Hannah, Arthur and i elected to stay (read: pay less) and share the next one. it never came. half an hour, three failed taxis, and two missed buses later, we made it. had time at the Lowther for one drink, aaah. i got leered at and it wasn't pretty. i wore my new black skirt from New Look (sooo nice) and the purple one-shouldered top and black jewellry. ohh, i missed Chris, haha.
got into Gallery fairly early, but it filled up rapidly. met up with Emily and Katie. normally i'm not a fan of Gallery or its music, but that night was fun. once i got drunk enough (actually, it does take less and less for me to appreciate dancing now) i went out to the dancefloor with Jack and Emily. Mike, hahaha, got "escorted" out around this time. he was upstairs and accidentally let some of his drink spill down onto the dancefloor, eeek. he wasn't too drunk, but i guess it was bad enough to get kicked out. poor kid! dancing with Arthur and Hannah was really fun. i'm hardpressed to think of a more adorable couple than the two of them. (Bristol is going to be fantastic!) i liked just being with them because it was enough company not to feel as if i were on my own, yet i didn't necessarily have to dance in a big group. there were some great songs, and being there with them and Jack was brilliant fun. when we left, we stopped (of course) to snag some chicken and chips, mmm. around 2, came home to find dear Christoph not only still awake, but cooking a curry for Ngaio and Lee! i wish i were kidding.
last night, i went early to YSC to help out. when i got there, there were already about 30 people forming a queue to get in. wow. by the time we were ready to admit entrance, the queue went out the door. we completely sold out the first showing, and had to schedule another one. there were talks of doing a third too, because we'd sold over a hundred tickets for the second, haha. (we fit about 290 people in.) we were duly impressed and stressed. Chris, Jack, Emily, Vicki, Harriet, Anna, Dutchie, and Ben came to the first one and save a spot for me. Slumdog Millionaire was amazing. if you're one of the few who still haven't seen it - go! highly enjoyable. i mean, Vicki, Anna, and Ellen were red in the face from bawling their eyes out - but if it's any consolation, i, for the first time in my life, didn't shed a tear. (what does that say?) the music was unbelievable, and the colours and cinematography were breathtaking. the film did show off Mumbai to the world, oh yes, but all i picked up was - don't ever go there, eek. it was an intriguing glimpse into the life of slumdogs, of a completely unusual and unknown part of global society. parts were terrifying and shocking, others were quite sad, while there were funny moments too. the story captiavted you and while you feared what horrific scenes would come next, you couldn't wait to see them. highly recommend it!
