Chris finished his essay in good time (around 12pm, ohhh his dedication) so later in the evening, after football (ohhh the scrapes and bruises) we celebrated by having a curry at the Garden of India (ohhh the excitment). much to my delight i found a mild, cheesy curry with the goodness of almond sauce and chicken. yum yum. Chris had some kahari and seemed to enjoy it immensely. the restaurant was nice and quiet so we could have a good chat and languished. we walked home and the crisp, spring air perked us both yup. once we got back he was dying to see Waterloo Road (the worst program: about a secondary school with all sorts of problems - teen pregnancy, explosions, guns, suicide, relationship drama, prisoned kids, steroid/drug abuse, alcholoism, unemplyoment, eviction - you name it! so bad it's good) so we did that until being interrupted by Dutchie and Harriet. the latter told us a little bit more about her man, who's supposed to come up and meet her this weekend. oOoh. Ellen regaled us with stories from her drama auditions and gods know what else. a funny end to the night.
tonight is the Rounders social with Hannah, Arthur, Jack, Mark, Mike, and goodness knows who else. i really just want to get out for a night, even if it's for a cause i don't necessarily believe in, haha. but whatever helps Hannah out! i can't wait to see her over Easter.
Tomorrow is Red Nose Day, kids. for once i get to watch all the Comic Relief events in real time! and i'm curious to see how excited the average Brit gets over this, how involved they become with the charity side. i mean, i know students are broke and whatnot, but still... there should be some wicked sketches. we'll sit down and watch them aftering seeing Slumdog Millionaire at the YSC. i think Comic Relief reflects some of the best of British television, culture, comedy, celebrities, politicians, etc. they've raised over half a billion pounds for charity to date, isn't that enough of a reason to get excited? the people of every nation should organize something like it. it's always one of the best nights of television of the year!! i love love love it.
there will be some great dress-buying opportunities coming up in the next little while. in May we have the Goodricke 40th Anniversary Ball (yayyy) and in July, on Wednesday of Week 10 (i will be the most emotional thing) there's the Summer Ball. granted, i don't necessarily have to buy another dress, or two, but it'll be so hard not to...
ooh, speaking of Goodricke. the shit hath hitteth the fan. our Provost, Jane, has become involved in all our kitchen nonsense. well, it's more than just nonsense really. our kitchen, 6 days out of the 7 is an effing pigsty. dishes piled way high, clean dishes never put away, etc. etc. you've heard me complain before. it's fucking disgusting. well, whenever someone (ie. Ellen, Vicki, Anna, Harriet, me, Chris) decides to clean up for once and for all, we actually - can you believe this? - get criticized. Dutchie and crew usually put a note up saying, "We did it again. We cleaned your filthy mess. You should be thanking us. We aren't going to do this again. We don't understand how you can live this way. Not only is it dirty it's unhygenic and we could get ill from the mould and filth. etc. etc." they are entitled to this bit of moaning, i think. they are justified. and without fail, the next day, someone will have scratched all that out and written some scathing note in response, not showing the least bit of gratitude. anyway, Ellen's had enough so she got Jane's help. next Tuesday we're having a mandatory kitchen meeting. now, naturally, everyone's gonna pretend to be all lovey-dovey and "Oh! But we really love a clean kitchen! We aren't lazy bastards who like sitting in messes!" and Jane will be pleased and really we'll have gotten nowhere, but whatever. what else can we do at this point? it is gross, and we do need to sort it out.
