Well, I did it. Not quite as fast as I'd hoped, but not off by too much. Official time was 2:27:04. I did learn a lot though. Looking back, I think I could have pushed harder. I was under my goal pace for about the first 6 miles. That got me as far as the speedway. Then I started slowing down. Part of that was because it was hard to pass people ( Read more... )

Tomorrow's the day - the OneAmerica 500 Festival Half Marathon. The main race has 35,000 participants (there's also a 5K with 4,000 people). There's supposed to be more than 100 entertainers - bands, cheer squads, things like that - along the route. It's the largest half marathon in the country. This past Saturday, I was up before the sun for a road race. My hometown is reputed to have the "World's Largest Free Street Fair." Or at least, it used to hold that title. The weather was looking pretty good this morning until my dad picked me up. As I walked out my front door, it began to sprinkle. As we continued north, it started raining harder. I was getting worried, but fortunately, it cleared off before we even pulled into the event parking area. By race time, it was sunny enough to need sunglasses.

The time for training has come and gone. Now is the time for nervous jitters. My first 5K... I'm actually very excited! I keep checking up on the weather forecast. There's a possibility of rain in the morning but it's only a 30% chance so I'm hoping for the best.
