So, I missed my post last week. All week I'd been reminding myself to do it, then yesterday I'd somehow convinced myself I'd already done it (I was thinking of the week before!) and didn't set myself straight until I was lying down to sleep at 11. Too late then! Oh well. Guess that just means I have to do extra this week, right? Right! *Makes the rules up as she goes* XD
So yesterday was the WOOF (Wells Outrageous Ouabache Fifteen). Dad and I did the 5 mile race, but nearly had to do the 15 because of some werid mistake. I pre-registered us on Wednesday, but the site never asked if I wanted to do the 5 or 15 miles. I didn't think much of it because my confirmation email said 5 miles. Then we get there and get signed in. Just a few minutes before the race start, we talk to this guy. My dad asks, "So, are you doing the whole 15?" The guy laughs and says, "No, but it looks like you are!" Ahh! *Insert complete moment of panic!* We'd been slotted for the 15 mile race - our yellow bibs confirmed it! So as everyone is leaving the shelter house to go to the start line, my dad and I were frantically explaining the situation to the race volunteers and changing out out bibs and timing chips. We made it to the race start with just enough time to spare.
I did three minutes better than last year and also did better doing the crazy (or, I should say "outrageous") straw bale climb around the 4.25 mile mark. I'll post pictures later when my sister downloads them.
And look at the snazy plaque I won.
Yes, that says first place in my age group! Now here's the part I'm not supposed to mention: I was the only woman in the 20-29 category doing the 5 mile race. Dad won first place in his age group too, but he actualy beat 3 other people, so his is much more deserved than mine.
The illustration on the award cracks me up! It's not too inaccurate a depiction of the straw bale obstacle, either. Except the bison are in an enclosure behind you, not chacing you, obviously.
And while I'm on the topic of park events, last weekend was Fall Festival, which I'd mentioned before that I had to make a costume for. My sister was Mother Nature, my niece was a Water Sprite, and I was a Wood Nymph. I didn't have time to do all I wanted and I took a lot of short cuts, and make a lot of mistakes trying to finish on time, but I got a lot of really good compliments, so I guess it turned out alright. I made everything myself, the necklas, the hair ornaments, the shirt, the belt, and the skirt. Whew! And since I'm being lazy, I'm just going to link you over to the picture that got posted to my sister's unofficial park facebook group:
