Chapter 9 “Oh hey, good morning, Yori-chan,” Daiki greeted as he placed his bag on the table and took off his cap.
I looked up from my book and flashed a smile.
“Hey, good morning, Dai-chan,” I greeted back and shifted my gaze back to the book.
Just then, I heard some shuffling noise followed by the pulling of the chair.
“Oh? What kind of book are you reading, Yori-chan?”
I looked up again, only to be startled by the closeness of our faces and moved away immediately while holding the book in between. Daiki blinked twice before chuckling at my reaction.
“Why are you so scared of me, Yori-chan?” he asked with his usual cheerful smile and his eyes shifted to the book.
“Eh? You’re trying to read about guys’ inner thoughts?” he asked again with raised eyebrows.
Quickly, I closed my book with a loud snap and hid it behind my back. I shook my head roughly and dropped my gaze. To my surprise, he let out a soft chuckle before patting my head lightly.
“Since there’s only the two of us here, why don’t you tell me about your feelings towards Chii?” he asked warmly.
My gaze trailed up slowly and caught the sight of his arms crossed while he leaned one side of his arms against the backrest of the chair. As our gaze met, I hesitated for a moment.
“But won’t you tell the other members too?” I asked with a slight frown, feeling insecure about it.
His eyes widened for a second before he flashed a warm smile at me. Stretching his little pinky out, he leaned slightly closer.
“I promise that I won’t tell the others about it, not even Chii. Can you believe me now?”
Staring at his pinky, a smile was painted across my lips. Nodding slightly, I stuck out my pinky and held together with his.
“I believe you, Dai-chan.”

“Yori-chan, today is the last day of the deal,” Kera said out of the blue during lunch time and I merely nodded at her words while chewing the meat in my mouth.
“After twelve midnight, the both of you will be officially backed to single,” she finished and I nodded again.
This time round, the members stopped eating and focused their gaze on me, especially Daiki. I stared back at them and raised my eyebrows.
“What?”
Ryosuke grabbed a piece of meat and stuffed it into his mouth before looking at me.
“Well, you must be really sad, right? After all, the both of you had been together for three weeks and definitely some feelings must have blossomed, right?” he asked while chewing and I choked on his words that instant.
Immediately, I grabbed the nearest glass of water nearby and gulped it down.
“Hey, Yori-chan! That’s my glass!” Yuto whined and I ignored him.
Sorry Yuto, but I need to save myself first.
Placing the glass back on the table, I shot a hard glare at Ryosuke.
“Well, sorry to disappoint you, Yama-chan. But I’m not feeling any sadness within me now,” I commented bluntly and continued with my lunch.
Ryosuke flashed a crook smile and shrugged.
“Oh well, it’s still early to talk about that, Yori-chan,” he said lightly while waving his fork with a piece of meat stuck on top.
I rolled my eyes and leaned over, biting the meat off from the fork.
“Yeah, right. By the way, thanks for the meat, Yama-chan!” I smirked and chewed happily.
Ryosuke stared at his fork in surprise before shooting a glare at me.
“Yori-chan! You’d better spit out that piece of meat from your mouth right now!” he cried angrily and I laughed.
Just then, I caught the sight of Yuuri from the corner of my eyes and the scene of our lips touched appeared in my mind. Immediately, my heart skipped a beat and before I knew, he looked up and our gaze met. A sudden awkwardness rose within me and I darted my eyes away quickly.
I should be feeling happy that it’s finally going to end. But why am I feeling so disappointed instead?
----------------------------------------------------------
“Ah, the weather is so cooling today!” I sighed loudly and stuffed both my hands into the pockets of my coat.
From the corner of my eyes, I watched as Yuuri nodded slightly and a slight frown ran across my face.
What’s wrong with him? He’s been so quiet today that I had almost forgotten he was there with us.
I nudged his arm with my elbow and he shot up his head immediately.
“What’s wrong with you? You’re acting strange today,” I commented while staring at him closely.
His gaze met mine for a brief moment before he looked away and shook his head.
“Nothing is wrong. Just thinking about some things,” he replied with a sigh.
I raised my eyebrows and nodded lightly.
“Well, if you say so then.”
For the next half an hour, none of us spoke. Silence soon filled up the atmosphere between us and slowly, I drifted off into my thoughts as well. As we turned in at the corner of the pavement, I spotted the white gate and stopped abruptly. He followed suit but stared at me in surprise.
“Why did you stop so suddenly?” he asked, finally looking at me for the first time that day.
“We’ve reached my house. You can go back now,” I replied and took out my warm hands from the pockets.
“Eh? But I’m supposed to send you to your doorstep,” he retorted and I sighed while taking a glance at my watch.
“Well, I guess you can save your energy for that few steps. It’s twelve-one in the morning,” I said and flashed the timing on my watch in his direction.
He widened his eyes for a second before looking away and I thought I saw a tint of sadness in his eyes.
“So…that just means that it’s officially over for us, right?” he asked slowly, avoiding my stare.
Hearing that, my heart started aching all of a sudden. It felt like it had been ripped apart.
Wait, why am I feeling this way? I should be cheering and squealing happily instead!
Biting my lips hard, I nodded slowly.
I need to get out of here now. My heart has gone haywire.
“Well…see you tomorrow then! I’ll be going now! Bye!” I bided quickly and turned on my heels before heading towards the gate.
“Yoriko!”
Just as my fingertips brushed against the gate, I froze on the spot but my gaze was fixed on my hand.
He just called my name. He had never call me by my first name before.
“Before I leave, can I ask you a question? You must answer it honestly, from the bottom of your heart,” he asked softly and I turned to him.
My heart began to pound faster as I nodded at his question.
“During the three weeks of deal, have you ever born the slightest feeling of likeness towards me?”
My eyes widened in shock and our gaze met for a few seconds before I turned away.
How can he be so straightforward?
I had no idea how I should answer him and merely stood there, biting my lips.
Slightest feeling? I’ve already fallen for you, Chinen Yuuri. But I just can’t tell you my real answer now…I’m sorry…
Then I made my decision. I shook my head and looked up with a smile.
“No, I didn’t. What a silly question,” I joked and proceeded to push open the gate.
“Liar!” he shouted and his voice echoed through the quiet streets.
I froze on my tracks for the second time and heard his footsteps walking nearer in my direction. Grabbing my shoulders, he spun me around and forced our eyes to meet.
“You lied. If you didn’t bear any feelings towards me, why did you kiss me that day?” he asked sadly with a slight frown.
Again, I was taken aback by his statement. My mind recalled back to the scene in his bedroom. Slowly, heat began to creep up my cheeks.
“H-how d-did yo-you-“
“I was awake the moment you pushed open the door but I pretended to be asleep when you entered the room,” he explained softly, after interrupting my sentence, and stared at me warmly.
“So let me ask you again, are you bearing any feelings for me right now?” he asked gently and I looked away, hesitating.
To my surprise, he released his grip from my shoulders.
“Once I’ve leave this place, I’ll treat everything that happened between us during the three weeks as nothing, even the kiss,” he muttered softly and I looked up instantly.
My heart was aching badly by then.
He’ll treat the kiss as nothing? That kiss was…
Just then, Saaya’s words entered my mind again. Thinking about her words and everything that happened during those three weeks, my heart throbbed painfully.
No, I can’t let him go. I’ve fallen hard for him. I love him.
“Yes! Yes, I’ve feelings for you,” I shouted loudly, shutting my eyes tightly and I heard his footsteps stopped abruptly.
“Before I realized, I had fallen head over heels for you. I’ve always thought of you as an arrogant and spoilt brat. But during those three weeks, after I’ve got to know you better, those negative feelings vanished immediately.”
Warm tears were brimming in my eyes and as I tried to control my voice from trembling, I failed to hear the sound of footsteps approaching me slowly.
“When I knew I had fallen for you, I became even harsher towards you. All along, I thought you hated me and if you knew my feelings, I was afraid that you wo-“
I didn’t manage to complete my sentence because the next thing I knew, our lips were crashed together and my eyes flew wide opened. Tears streamed down from the side of my cheeks and I closed my eyes again as his arms wrapped around my body. Upon breaking the kiss, he moved slightly away but his arms were still wrapped tightly around me.
“I was afraid that if I had confessed to you, you would reject me harshly. But now, I can tell you my feelings openly,” he said, leaning in and touching our foreheads together.
“I love you, Mitsuno Yoriko.”
He pulled me into a tight embrace and I closed my eyes, inhaling his scent. Just then, I felt his mouth brushed lightly again my right ear.
“Actually, I’ve fallen for you since the day I bumped into you at the train station. My cruel treatment towards you was to grab your attention as well as to hide my feelings for you. I love you, Yoriko.”
