My grandmother on my Father's side turned 101 years old earlier this month.  She made the local news.  This perfectly encapsulates Grandma and the blessing she is to so many of us.

For those who’ve come in late: I have a daughter. From Christmas of the year she was six years old, until recently, we were estranged. Not a part of each others lives. A couple of years ago, it seemed like every other or at least every third post I wrote was about how I missed her.

I'm not sure, but I think one of the things I'll remember best about this particular trip is the feel of her aged hands holding mine.  The soft, warm skin of her thumb rubbing the back of my hand.  It was a gentle feeling, the years in that thumb having polished it smooth, supple.  Sort of like fine leather, only more real;  more personal, my ( Read more... )
