Learn the peyote stitch by creating a beaded hair stick or Turkey feather. This class will teach you the peyote stitch, aspects of design, and how to increase and decrease stitch size. While no experience is necessary, it is useful to have had some experience in working with seed beads. This is a 2 hour class. The cost is $40.00

More info showing what is involved in creating a basket....

To start with, here is the cedar that I use as a base for most of the baskets I weave. Other materials for weaving that I use include but are not limited to cattails, reed, raffia, and sweet grass.

It's finished!!!!! Yay me!

After several months I've completed the monster sized basket. Well ok, monster sized to me as I've never made a basket this large before.

Spent hours yesterday learning how to strip stinging nettles to get plant fiber to make cordage for weaving. It's a fairly simple process of crushing the stalks and stripping the outer bark. I did have to pay the nettle gods by getting stung in a couple of areas. *shrug* I guess that is another way to get closer to the plant. So far I have 12 feet ( Read more... )

Started to work on some cedar baskets hoping to at least  finish the larger one, but alas, I have not been able to find the finishing needle that I use. The eyes on my other needles are too small. I guess a trip to a craft shop is in order not only to get a replacement needle, but to pick up some more supplies to work on a commissioned basket. The ( Read more... )
