As many of my friends would know, I hate being out in the sun. Although I enjoy beaches and swimming, my idea of a good time at the beach would involve cloudy skies (without rain) or the setting sun. So it's no surprise that I am essentially a night owl and that I would much rather be active at night. (Case in point
here.)
For me, all the fun stuff in Singapore really happens at night anyway, like 3 a.m. Geylang suppers, middle-of-the-night shopping at Mustafa, the Night Safari etc. There's currently a
light festival taking place at Marina Bay, featuring some cool light installations by various artists, all dotted along the perimeter of the bay. The skyscrapers form a great backdrop for the installations, and it's perfect for kids because there's plenty to see and lots of space for running around in.

The Gate was one of the more popular installations and was The Bun's favourite one, because it is just so visually spectacular that it draws you right in. Hundreds of laser beams shine from a doorway and once every few minutes, a burst of smoke is emitted, creating a 3D effect so that the beams look like they can be touched. Many kids had fun trying to 'catch' the light and The Bun loved it so much we literally had to pry him away from the work to see other things.

I enjoyed this light festival much more than
last year's Night Festival. The skyscrapers and the expanse of the bay make all the difference. We didn't manage to see all the installations because the bay is much too big to cover in a single night with a toddler in tow, but we'll definitely be back to check out the other half of the circuit before the festival ends on April 1.
