The Bun is sick again, which kind of sucks, but at least we have nothing planned for this week so hopefully with enough rest at home he will recover in time for Christmas. I really don't feel any excitement about Christmas apart from the fact that J will be having some time off from work. We discussed getting a small (and fake) Christmas tree for The Bun but ultimately neither of us could be bothered to follow through. We do have a nice minimalist 'tree' made of felt cones in shades of red and orange that we bought from Tokyo years and years ago, and The Bun has enjoyed playing with his own set of Christmas trees. Whatever works, right?
Last week at playgroup his teachers organised a little Christmas party and the adults brought extra snacks to share. After the session The Bun gave his teachers two Christmas cards that he painted (and I cut out in the shape of Christmas trees) and a small box of chocolates each. We all exchanged hugs and I left feeling warm and fuzzy. His teachers definitely deserve whatever tokens of appreciation they get over the holidays. Our small class size allows us some extra leeway to chit-chat and get to know each other properly, and they have also been very genuine and in-tune with The Bun and his needs, especially in the recent few weeks as he has been going through a fearful stage (more on that in another post). I'm really glad to have chosen this place for The Bun's playgroup - there is really a cosy, community feel to it and while I know all enterprises of these sort are ultimately businesses, at least here it doesn't feel like it encroaches upon every facet of the place.
The constant rain today has been a real downer. I need to get stuck into a good book and a hot cup of tea.
