the EZlink challenge

The cookie factory is finally done! I had my first proper weekend out.

Today the Gods of Public Transport were not in my favour. I was supposed to meet mozzie at the bus stop near his place so that we could go pick up S for her 'surprise' (not) birthday brunch. J was out helping his parents for Chinese New Year preparations, so I decided to take the bus since he doesn't live that far away from me.

But when I got to the bus interchange my bus was just pulling out and I missed it! That's pretty common, so I settled down to wait. I also decided to prepare my EZlink card because I usually can never find it when the bus arrives. But wait - I had left it at home! I walked to the train station next to the interchange to buy one, but they only sold single-trip cards for train trips only. I had no small change, only notes in big denominations, so I couldn't find coins to take the bus with. I had no choice but to go back upstairs to get my card.

Thankfully I live right next to the bus interchange. But it was blazing hot today, and I was not happy.

The story doesn't end here. Walking back to the bus interchange I saw a line of taxis nearby. I walked the short distance over only to realise that all of them were already hired or on call and there were 5 people waiting in line. At this point I just gave up, walked meekly back to the bus interchange, and waited for the bus which took forever to arrive.

Moral of the story: always carry your EZlink card with you!

Brunch was at the cozy Real Food Daily organic cafe, which had just that right atmosphere for lazy chat and sitting around. I've known S and Mozzie for a decade now, which really is quite long, and yet I still find that we're still learning about each other and that we're all still subtly changing in small ways.

Met up with J after that in an attempt to do some CNY shopping. My ears bleed when I walk into a shop blaring dong dong chiang music, so I pop in and out of shops, and browse through stuff really quickly. I got me new makeup from MAC to go with my new tan, and tried bikini-hunting (er, I think a diet is in order) for my further adventures in the pool. I am realising that the quest for the perfect swimsuit is a bit of a challenge. While I remain the size that I am, that is.

I have to leave for work at 6.30am to get to a 7am meeting tomorrow! And after that I have back-to-back meetings until 6.30pm! It's going to be a long day.

weekend, friends
