into the blue

I had a good session in the pool today. Somehow all the work that I've been doing for the last few weeks kicked in and I swam long, smooth strokes, the way my swim is supposed to be, I guess. It was like this when I was learning to ride a bike too. First few lessons, I was all wobbly and out-of-sync. Then one day I got on the bike and boom - something in my head went off and my body realised something and suddenly, I could ride a bike.

In theatre, dance, and the other performing arts, this is called body memory, or muscle memory.

I love the way swimming wipes out the weights in my mind, mostly because I'm focusing on my strokes, or my breathing. It's a little like yoga that way. I still have to build up strength and endurance, but guess who will be signing up for more lessons the minute they are offered? After dinner tonight I walked around a bit with J, but inside me I was itching to climb back into the pool. I even checked my watch (9pm!) and considered (just briefly) running back in for a few more laps.

Consider me addicted.
