“I call shotgun!” Sam shouted.
“No, you don’t, squirt,” Dean snagged his sweatshirt before Sammy could dart into the busy parking lot. “It’s my turn to sit up front with Dad.”
“No fair, Dean!” Sam protested, squirming out of his brother’s grip. “You gotta sit up front on the way here.”
“So? I’m the oldest.”
“You’re both sitting in the back,” John muttered, unlocking the Impala’s doors.
“What?”
“California law, boys. You gotta be twelve to ride in the front seat.”
The boys stared at each other, crestfallen.
“Man,” Dean mumbled, climbing into the back seat, “being a kid sucks.”
