* For nishoken, because she is an awesome supporter of DaiUmi (which is a pairing I never really thought anyone would ship, except for some of us who already did lol). Also she made me a pretty (dangerous and sexy) manip which was the basis of this idea.
* Each chapter has a manip with it, and it is the inspiration for each part. First one is made by Jas~!

ONE

Umika Kawashima was a very smart lass. She has been trained since she was a child to be manipulative and cunning. It was what an heiress needed, they said. To be able to take over the family business, an international hotel managing corporation, Umika had to be smart, determined and passionate. She was nurtured to be the strong future leader. Smartest in the school and a refined woman to everyone's eyes, she was just the image of success.

She was 18 years old and at the peak of her happiness.

That was until her father went home one day and announced her arranged marriage. "You will meet him tomorrow, that CEO of Japan's largest medical company." His voice carried authority and firmness, making her unable to react at once. "Nishikido-san will surely delight in seeing you."

"Nishikido...-san?" Her eyes widened as it dawned on her. "He is almost ten years older than me!" She cried out, indignant. "Why..." Her voice softened just a bit as she pieced things together. "Why would this be necessary?"

Her father sat down across her at the long dinner table. He looked unfazed by her reaction. "Umika, you're my only child. A girl. You are a woman like no other now, but-"

"But being a woman means I cannot take over?" Umika stood up in anger, banging her fists on the table. "That is what you are getting at?! I am the smartest in the school. No one can even go against me. I have worked really hard to attain this! Are you saying it was all for naught?"

Still calm and composed, he glanced at her and looked her in the eye. "All those training I made you do was all for this. You are to be the strongest wife to the strongest and most powerful man in Japan."

Not being able to hold it in any longer, tears of anger and frustration fell down her eyes as she stormed out of the dining room to the staircase up to her room. She plopped down her bed face first, sobbing and cursing fate for doing this to her. She worked her way to being this girl she is now. People look at her in admiration. She was someone to be idolized. She was a success story. She was not someone who could just stay at the back and be a shadow. She was not made to be a display doll. She was not a loser.

She will never, ever let anyone take her freedom away. She had the brains to survive this world. She'll prove to him, to that ruthless father of hers, that she will rise even without his name.

...

It took a good two hours before she could sneak out of that big mansion. Wearing her most casual clothes, which was composed of a brand name red skirt and a simple pink blouse from Paris, she gathered her necessities into one bag and sneaked outside the mansion. She knew how the guards patrolled the gate, and of when the gate was free from barricade. "Here..." She dragged her small bag as she crouched behind one pillar. Once this guard passes by, she will be able to run to the last gate and into her freedom.

"And... Now!" she muttered before running to the gate as quietly as possible, while the guard's view was still obstructed by the statue design at the center. Once fully out, she looked back and was satisfied to see that no one was following her. 'That is good...' She walked some more to place as much distance as she can between that mansion and her. After five or so turns, she slumped down the floor and panted. She was not that good at physical activities. She was smart, but she was not used to exerting her physical skills. She has always been excused during PE class because she was 'special'.

She had a few money on her right now. Her savings in the bank would probably be taken away and she would have to make do with what was left in her purse. It was still quite an amount of money, and despite being pampered her whole life, she was trained to treasure money like a good businessman. She knew how to handle this. First thing she needs is to find a place to stay. A cheap, normal one.

She continued walking, looking for an establishment that could help her. After half an hour or so, she chanced upon a convenience store. She realized she was already pretty hungry, not having eaten her dinner properly. "Just bread will do" she sighed and went inside. Two guys, one black haired small guy and one brown haired tall guy were in front of the cashier. They didn't have a basket and it looked like the girl on the cashier was getting scared. The two guys were talking and laughing together without a care.

Narrowing her eyes, she walked to the aisle and quickly took one melon pan. She took one mineral water bottle before bravely walking up to the two gangsters. "Excuse me. You are in the way." She used her most polite voice, eyeing the two. "If you could just move to the side, please." She added. She waited patiently for them to react and move away.

But instead, they simply started laughing while looking at her. "Hear that, Junta? The lady wants us to move!"

The guy named Junta smirked and faced Umika, stepping forward. "With that outfit, no one will take you seriously. Are you begging to be kidnapped?" He scoffed, looking at her from head to toe. It was obvious she was different, from the regal-feel of her clothes to the way she stood and presented herself. She looked every inch a rick kid. "To actually face us with that expression..." He forcefully tilted her chin up using his right hand.

Her eyes flared with anger. Nobody is allowed to touch her. And definitely no one is allowed to hurt her in any way. "You..." She was about to kick him when the convenience store's door opened and a small, serious looking guy walked quickly towards them

"So you're hurting random girls now, Junta? Too weak to find someone your size?" He said, a smirk playing on his lips. "Don't go touching girls who aren't yours. That one's mine."

Junta immediately let go, glaring at the newcomer with what seems to be hatred. "Acting all big just because Boss protects you... You're just a puny servant, Daiki."

"Watch your mouth." Daiki simply chuckled grimly. "You won't know what will happen if you spout nonsense." He smiled a dark smile, full of malice. "Your girl friend Mina won't be happy to hear that you're doing this again~ Her heart won't handle the stress, could she?" His final smile was a triumphant one.

Eyes widening in shock, Junta stepped back and said "Don't touch Mina. She's not part of this."

"Then don't touch my girl." He simply shrugged, taking Umika's left arm and pulling her closer. "Now, scram."

Junta and his friend looked defeated as they jogged out of the convenience store.

Despite her intelligence, it took a whole minute for Umika to process what the hell just happened and for her to stomp on Daiki's feet to make him let go of her.

"OUCH!" Daiki looked surprised as he sat down on the floor in pain. "What the hell?! Is that your way of thanking your savior? Because you sure look damn ungrateful to me."

She narrowed her eyes at him, irritated more than anything. The least she needed right now was some stupid guy trying to act like a hero. She was not helpless. Not all girls needed someone to save them. "I could have handled that myself."

Probably not being able to stop himself, a chuckle escaped his lips. "I could see that."

"Onii-chan..." The girl behind the counter rushed to his side and took his hand to make him stand up. "Are you okay? Thanks for saving me again." She said with a wide smile.

He showed a small (probably real) smile as he patted her on the head. "Don't worry about it, Hana. It's my fault you're being bothered by those stupid guys. I'll make sure boss would make this place safe for you, okay?"

She nodded happily before turning and facing Umika. Instead of getting angry at her for hurting his brother though, she bowed down and said "Thank you very much!" Her eyes were shining when she looked up and stared at Umika. "You're a role model! You're amazing!" Her smile was so bright that it was almost blinding. "I'm really grateful that you stood up to them for me."

Raising an eyebrow, Umika placed her melon pan and mineral water on the counter before saying "They were just in the way. And I'm not a hero or a role model. On the first place, I don't like girls like you." She looked at her with cold, calculating eyes. "Weak." She muttered. After a few seconds, she said "Are you just going to stand there gaping?"

Blinking in surprise, Hana took the products and placed it in a plastic bag. "It's on me." She said. "As thank you."

"I have money." Umika grumbles, getting more and more pissed off by the way these people are. Do they think she can't even buy her own food? She took one of her bills and placed it on the counter. "There."

Daiki immediately snatched it and held it above his face, staring at it. "This big bill?! For one bread and one bottle of water? You really are naive, huh, Umika Kawashima-san."

Her eyes widened. "How..." These are normal people, aren't they? As of now, Umika was yet to be announced as the heiress of the Kawashima family. The family was careful not to let common people know who she was, in fear of her being kidnapped.

"Just a guess." Daiki chuckled, eyes showing a sparkle that meant to Umika that he knew more than he should.

Hana looked curious as she looked at her brother, then at Umika. "Do you know each other? And um, Umika-chan, I don't have change for this big bill. So really, it's on me."

Umika did not care what the hell Hana was saying. She was feeling a bit of a fear towards this guy who knew her identity. She was running away from that name. She did not need anyone ruining her plans so early. Grabbing his arm, she pulled her to the other side of the store in panic. "Who are you and why do you know me? I demand an answer right now."

"A rich brat through and through huh?" Daiki's smile was widening, almost reaching his eyes. He was amused, definitely amused, by her reaction. "Let's just say I'm a family friend. Though I guess you could also say I'm a family enemy. I talked a lot with your father before, and I've seen you a lot. Don't you remember me?"

No memory clicked in her mind. This guy in front of her was someone she just met, she thinks. Besides, she doesn't really care about people outside her social circle. "I do not. Answer me properly. Who are you?"

He offered his hand. "Miyamoto Daiki. That's my name for now. I was Ookichi Kentaro when I was under your father's care?"

"For now? Ookichi..." Her eyes widened. "Papa's secretary who..." She stepped back in fear. "You sealed a deal with a foreign company, then ran away with the money. And then you ki- killed Miyamoto Akise..." She stepped back further, feeling her knees getting weaker. When she was 16, she heard about all of the details. It was horrifying. Scary and ruthless. It almost scarred her mind.

"Woah, woah." Daiki's eyes turned serious, almost angry, as he raised both hands up in a defenseless pose. "I never killed anyone. I don't kill people. Words are my weapon. Intellect... that's what I use. Not weapons for killing people."

"Why would I believe you?" Umika had her back to the shelf now. "You're a killer and a liar! You almost ruined the company my dad worked so hard for!"

"Sshhh..." He raised his index finger to his lips. "Do you think it will help you if you shout and tell your father about me? You don't right? Kawashima-san is smart. You know you can't talk about me. Or else you'd have to go back to your little world of stereotypes and oppression." He smiled triumphantly when he saw her expression change. "I could help you. I have the skills and the things you need. If you're with me, you would be able to stand up against your father. You'll prove yourself."

"To ally myself with a criminal? Do you think I would stoop so low?" She asked with furrowed eyebrows. Despite this, she looked confused of her decision herself. What does she do from here?

"Is there 'stooping low' in business, Kawashima-san?" Daiki almost scoffed at the idea.

To this, Umika looked down in defeat. "You do everything to win. That is the secret of success in business. Step on who you have to step on. Trample on people to reach your goal. There is no right or wrong in this fight."

Daiki openly laughed upon hearing her say that. "Akiyoshi-sama's exact words!" He laughed some more. "You are really your father's daughter, Kawashima-san."

"Stop calling me Kawashima. I am no longer my father's daughter. Umika. I'm just Umika now."

"Then do you agree with my plan, Umika?" He offered his hand.

She shook it firmly, showing her determination and bravery. "It's a deal."

And so they met, the runaway Lady and the on-the-run criminal. What would happen with the two of them from here onward?
