19 Fics for your 19th Birthday (10-14 / 19)
I'm just going to post six KamiShi drabbles first because the Shougo one is angst and I can't handle it, and because I want to write something for my precious KamiShi4 friends. Also these are all my weird headcanons. Please proceed with caution.
Ten. KamiShi; First Meeting
Most people don't know but their first meeting wasn't really in the Tantei Gakuen Q SP making. That was their real first time talking, but they had met each other once already before.
Kamiki was visiting Miura Haruma then, when he first saw her. It wasn't really anything special, so to say. No sparks flew. There were no butterflies on her stomach. They probably didn't look at each other for more than ten seconds. They didn't even greet each other. Kamiki was so busy ranting about how cool Miura's role was, and Shida was busy staring at Miura's perfect face.
The best thing common to the two at that time was probably how they both fawned at Miura. They were both big "fans" of the older guy.
And so when they met again, for their real first meeting, there was only one thought in their minds.
"Oh. That girl who has a crush on Haru-chan..."
"Oh. Miura-kun's fanboy..."
It wasn't entirely a good first impression, though it wasn't a bad one either. It was just a... pretty unusual one.
When they were finally alone, since the introductions of the cast was finished, Kamiki smiled brightly and sat beside her. "Hello" he greeted brightly. "I remember seeing you in 14 sai no haha's taping."
She smiled, a bit awkwardly. "Uh. I did too." She replied, not knowing what else to say.
"You were really close to Haru-chan, ne?" he asked. "He talked about you a lot." He wasn't usually talkative with girls but this girl was mentioned so many times in his conversations with Haruma that he felt as if he had talked to her before.
A blush covered her cheeks. "Mi-miura-kun did?" She stuttered, a pleased and embarrassed tone obvious in her voice. "He mentioned you too. He said you were like his little brother."
"More like his son." He chuckled. "Harumama" He grinned.
"I can't imagine Miura-kun like that though." She giggled, laughing at the mental image. It was funny to think of that shy but mature Miura doting on a boy her age. It was almost impossible to imagine it.
"He'll visit us, for sure." He simply said. "You'll see then."
Their next few conversations centered on Miura Haruma as well but soon enough they started talking about themselves. About who they were, what they liked, what they did. Soon enough they became friends.
Eleven. KamiShi; Smiles
When they first met, both of their smiles were awkward, uncomfortable and not quite real.
The next time they saw each other, it was still awkward and shy, not quite knowing how to start. Not quite knowing how to be friends just yet.
And then he smiled that friendly smile of his, the infamous Kamiki Ryunosuke greeting which makes all kinds of people soften up to him. So she smiled as well, only a bit, but still wider and warmer than the first times.
Two weeks into the taping and something changed. Everyone noticed how warm his smile was, how welcoming, how open. Hers changed to a jollier one too. But people watched their friendship and thought that 'Yes,those smiles are merely of friends.' There was no malice. Everyone simply watched them fondly.
"When was it, I wonder?" One NTV staff said, looking at them two years after their last interview. "They suddenly... just changed into this... something..."
Another staff giggled, watching Shida and Kamiki play around at the backstage. "It's their smiles, right? Kamiki-kun went here just a few months ago with Sakuraba-chan but his smile is really different. He smiles at Shida-chan like she's the only one here."
"He doesn't show it much, though. Right? It's like he tries not to look at her as much but they end up looking at each other anyway." You could almost hear the upcoming squeal about to spill from her lips. "It's cute."
The staff buzzed around happily, discussing the two.
At the side, Kamiki and Shida continued playing around without care.
Twelve. KamiShi; Nickname
"Shida-chan... is it okay to call you that?" He smiled that usual friendly smile of his.
"Um" She nodded a bit. "Yes. Sure. Then..."
"You can call me Ryu. Everyone calls me that."
She blinked. "B-but... I'll be confused since it's Yamada-kun's role," She mused. "And somehow... Hmmm" Something was bothering her, but she couldn't point it out. "Anou. How about Mikki? The Mikki in Kamiki." She giggled, finding the nickname cute and funny at the same time.
"Eh-?" He stared at her in surprise. "Mikki huh..."
"Too weird?" She asked, laughing.
He shook his head. "It's... I guess it's special? Shida-chan will be the only one who would call me that." He looked embarrassed as he explained.
A bright smile appeared on her face, and warmth enveloped her. Something... something clicked inside her. But she pushed the feeling aside and smiled a carefree smile. "Un!"
Thirteen. YamaKamiShi; Classmates?
It wasn't entirely planned that they would go to the same school. It was more like fate, with a little help from a certain Yamada Ryosuke.
Yamada liked Shida as much as Shida liked Yamada. Which is to say, they were each other's crush for a brief period of time. Until Yamada called Shida "boyish", that is. After that, they just became friends who casually blackmails each other (quite a nice relationship, actually). Yamada was sure he'll be studying in Horikoshi no matter what, so he mailed both of his Tantei Gakuen Q friends and asked them if they wanted to take the exam.
Kamiki agreed readily, knowing full well that it was the perfect school for his weird schedule. His senpais in his agency told him to study there too.
Shida, on the other hand, wanted to try other schools too. It would be interesting to look into other curriculum and other paths too.
And so it surprised them when on the first day of class, they all saw each other on the line for the freshmen students.
"Yamada-kun! Mikki!" Shida waved enthusiastically at the two, running towards them.
"Shida-chan!" They both greeted as brightly.
From then on, they started hanging out. Not as much as when they worked together of course, but it was almost as fun. Every lunch they would talk and they would hang out. Yamada had his two friends, Kamiki had Shougo, and Shida had Umika and Suzuka, but somehow they always ended up talking at one point or another.
They were close friends for those three years, and of course even beyond that.
Fourteen. KamiShi; Helping out each other
When it was announced that Shida would be the next seiyuu for the latest Studio Ghibli film, Kamiki was ecstatic. He, of course, knew that he would be the protagonist. Even before the character drawings were made, he was already their only choice. He was glad to be able to work with her again, even if it's just in terms of voice acting.
"Is it hard? Do I... how do you do it, really?" Shida wasn't the type to panic, but this was really just a new experience for her. There was so much pressure as well, given all those issues about her being liked too much by NTV. She had to prove herself or else she'll spiral into depression. "What if I can't catch up to the character's movements..."
Without warning, he put a hand on top of her head, ruffling her hair fondly, and smiled encouragingly. "Shida-chan can do it. You're better than me at a looot of things, anyway. You're competitive, aren't you?" He grinned. "Then just do your best like always!"
"..." It was hard to feel calm so easily, but his eyes were clear and honest, and his other hand took her right and held it with full trust. He knew she could do it. She could prove herself. "Should we compete again?" Despite her fears, she felt her lips forming a small smile. "I won't go easy on you."
"Then come." He smiled wider, remembering how he said that once in an interview with her. They were always competing to be better than the other, and yet they always felt like they were each other's best ally. "I'll do my best of course."

"With this chance to be together, I became at ease. For all your help, thank you very much."
"No, no, no~ At my side, there's this feeling of being helped as well."
