yea so on the way home from school today i started thinking. i know that the character of dorothy has been a big issue to some people in our 4th block. i also know that everyone has made their comments in regards to it, including me. in fact i said something today.....so dont think this is an "i'm innocent" post. but i was thinking about the ( Read more... )

Not to play devils advocate, but I will:

What if that drama kid who "threw together an audition" was better suited for the role campbell gave him/her? That's what it boils down to, and thank god Campbell doesnt let outside opinions sway him in matters like this. The higher role you get doesn't determine your talent in theatre you know. Basically, the person selected for that particular role was the best suited in the way they looked, the way they sang, and what the director saw in the audition.

We need to get off this sign that says "If you get a lead role that means you are talented," because that just is not true.

so you think that the bird girls we properly chosen last year....
michelle and brittney over amber or sara?

i know that talent is the over all thing....but i also think that effort should play a role. i guess it does in a way. the post was my opinion so i dont feel like i stand corrected.

Do you? Realize that more than one person had a say in that audition. Realize that two choir girls auditioned for predominantly singing parts. Realize that Campbell saw that Amber and Sara (since we are bringing up their names) better as Whos than as a backup singing group. Not to mention the fact that Ray was sitting in on the audition as well and gave casting advice to campbell as well.

Sadly enough, everyone thought the Whos were some shit chorus group, which hurt the whole show in the long run. (Not saying that Amber or Sara did, and realizing that other circumstances could have arisen and did that I don't have full knowledge of. Just using an example)

In the end, effort isn't the end all Be-All, and You said that you realized that so I will stop here.

No, this is probably one of the most coherent and eloquent statements I can remember you making. None of us are offended, I just wanted to state my opinion against yours :). I don't think you are awful at all either (Save when you call me a loser or disgusting) and you have every right to state your opinion in your LJ.

But I would like to think campbell's audition is important. The man isn't all-seeing all-knowing about all of his students, that would be nigh to impossible. (Though he is freakishly amazingly smart and calculative and can multitask like a demon.) Not to mention all of the people who auditioned for their first time; there could be alot of undiscovered talent there, and that needs to be considered for there to be an excellent show. He also has to see how peoples voices sound, yada yada... I do understand what you are saying about how auditions are not serious, and you are right when you compare it to something like auditioning for Community Theatre. In relation to that, Campbell has personal knowledge of alot of the ( ... )
