i personally didnt quit the musical last year...i didnt audition because of personal reasons. but yes i think that things like quitting because they got chorus should be considered. are they dependable? you know?

i dont really care what the cast list ends up being.

i agree with you though. i totally think that someone with talent should get the role over someone who prepared if they are more talented. and to be honest, i prepared my music with my voice teacher but the first time i read through my monologue was in front of campbell. i didnt mean for it to sound like i thought i should get the role...or caroline should get the role....because we prepared. like i said i dont care about the cast list, i was just thinking about that on the way home. the only reason i prepared was because i didnt think that campbell knew my FULL potential as far as singing is concerned and i thought i might get a better part if i worked harder. (my choice) i am one of those people who gets nervous only if i am un prepared. i dont know. its so easy to explain all of this to dm...who i was discussing the whole thing with, because he understands my view, and agrees with me. its too hard to sit down and type out. but it doesnt matter. i would just like to get all this drama crap concerning auditions over with. i think a lot of people are stressed because of uncertainty issues (not nessecarily you) i think things will settle once practice begins...hopefully...

i really hope that yall wont think i am awful because of this post. this is a journal and thats how i was feeling. i dont know. UH!

i am not mad at you or ben because everyone will have an opinion about this one.

i let the whole thing get the best of me. campbells auditions are really never serious....i know that, but i forgot for a while. thank goodness it will be over tomorrow. oh, the whole post was meant to say was that roles should be based on more than talent (commitment, relaibility, etc) i know that they are, but i just worked up a situation in my head. sorry guys :(

No, this is probably one of the most coherent and eloquent statements I can remember you making. None of us are offended, I just wanted to state my opinion against yours :). I don't think you are awful at all either (Save when you call me a loser or disgusting) and you have every right to state your opinion in your LJ.

But I would like to think campbell's audition is important. The man isn't all-seeing all-knowing about all of his students, that would be nigh to impossible. (Though he is freakishly amazingly smart and calculative and can multitask like a demon.) Not to mention all of the people who auditioned for their first time; there could be alot of undiscovered talent there, and that needs to be considered for there to be an excellent show. He also has to see how peoples voices sound, yada yada... I do understand what you are saying about how auditions are not serious, and you are right when you compare it to something like auditioning for Community Theatre. In relation to that, Campbell has personal knowledge of alot of the applicants of this show and that will factor in to his decision making. So I am sort of disagreeing and agreeing with you here.

I personally would rather see more talent than experience make it in theatre. Unfortunately, most people have disagreed with me (Case in point all of the people who quit the musical throughout the years, not just this one because of a role they didn't get) but that also will affect Campbell's decision making in a negative way in my opinion.

I think it's a sad thing because it dilutes the performance...

Theatre isn't this hierarchial totem pole where if you are a senior you are guaranteed roles or that a "chorus" role is necessarily the bottom of the said totem pole. I have digressed this topic to the ends of the earth, someone stop me please.
