The candles set upon the cream tablecloth lit the room with a soft glow, their dancing yellow flames adding luminous flecks to his emerald green eyes as he knelt beside her chair, running his tongue over his dry lips nervously.
‘Maybe this is too soon, ‘Mione, but I’ve wanted to do this for so long,’ he whispered, gazing earnestly into her caramel eyes. ‘Hermione Jane Granger… Will you marry me?’
He opened the small velvet box he held in his trembling hands, revealing the smooth band and sparkling diamond within. She slowly raised a slim hand to her lips, fingers shaking visibly. ‘Harry, I-’ She paused, blinking her eyes rapidly. ‘Yes, of course I will!’
Relieved and overjoyed all at once, he slipped the golden ring onto her finger before kissing away the few happy tears that had fallen from beneath her lashes.
