Went up to New Buffalo on Saturday for a bitchin' clam back on the beach. It was at the Lakeside Inn, which is this rustic old hotel that looks out over the lake. They started trying to ween the old man off the ventilator a couple of days ago. They gave up for the time being today. He now has a colostamy bag, is starting to get bed sores and they are going to do a tracheotomy on Monday. He's not doing worse, he's just not doing better. Dad's lungs started working like they should yesterday. They don't have to do anything else that requires sedation so today they cut it off. They've started weening him from the ventilator and think that they'll be able to take him off of it tomorrow or Friday. There has been virtually no change in my dad's condition for the past week. I've been told by an actual practicing nurse that this isn't really a problem until you get to two weeks.
