Marissa returned to the bar just in time for the man on stage to finish his personal interpretation of Piano man.

“Do you want something to drink?” she asked, but the other girl shook her head.

“I want you to sing with me!” Lindsay replied, smiling brightly. She was really looking forward to perform with Marissa. The feeling of anticipation was making her a little nervous, but in a good way. Her stomach was doing flips, just like it did when Marissa smiled at her.

“I can´t Linds, I have to work!” Marissa gave her an apologizing look and the smile fell off Lindsay´s face.

“But I was looking forward to it so much!” she blurted out and then bit her lip. Lindsay Pearce was not a girl that begged, instead she got up from her chair and walked towards the stage. She would get Marissa to sing with her, she had been looking forward to this all day and “I have to work!” was not an acceptable answer to her.

Lindsay got up on stage, grabbed a microphone and whispered her song choice into the guitarists’ ear.

With a smile on her face she turned around to face the other guests in the pub. “Hey, my name is Lindsay Pearce.” She introduced herself and her eyes wandered over to the bar, where Marissa was still standing, eyeing her carefully. “And I don´t take no for an answer!”

She nodded into the guitarists’ direction and he instantly began playing. The first notes of a song, that was well known to everyone, filled the air and Lindsay, who was still smirking, began to sing.

Well sometimes I go out by myself
And I look across the water
And I think of all the things what you´re doing
And in my head I paint a picture

Lindsay grabbed a second mic from a small table on the side and jumped the little step down the stage.

Cause since I´ve come on home
Well my body´s been a mess

She made her way through the tables and into the direction of the bar, all eyes following her. Lindsay had only eyes for Marissa though.

She rested her hands on the bar, leaning forward slightly, and grinned at the other girl before she continued singing.

And I miss your ginger hair
And the way you like to dress

Marissa felt herself blush and tried to hide the smile that was tugging on the corner of her mouth, but she couldn´t quite bring herself to turn away from Lindsay.

Won´t you come on over
Stop making a fool out of me
Oh why don´t you come on over Valerie

Lindsay put the second mic down in front of Marissa and winked at her, before she turned around and hurried back onto the stage.

Valerie
Why don´t you come on over Valerie
Valerie

Lindsay stopped and waited. For a few seconds, which still seemed like forever to her, there was only the music filling the air, but then Lindsay heard a voice that wasn´t her own, and she smiled, her heart skipping a beat.

Did you have to go to jail
Put your house all up for sale
Did you get a good lawyer?
I hope you didn´t catch a tan

Lindsay turned around and saw Marissa standing in between all the tables, grinning up at her while singing the second verse.

I hope you find the right man
Who´ll fix it for you
Now are you shopping anywhere?
Changed the color of your hair
And are you still busy?

Marissa made her way towards the stage, still smiling. Even if it was just a little step, Lindsay held out her hand and Marissa took it, letting the other girl pull her up onto the stage.

Did you have to pay that fine
That you were dodging all the time
Are you still dizzy?

It was Lindsay´s turn to sing again and she did, squeezing Marissa´s hand that she was still holding.

Cause since I´ve come on home
Well my body´s been a mess
And I miss your ginger hair
And the way you like to dress

She smirked at Marissa before she let go off the other girl´s hand, walking over to the other side of the stage.

Marissa´s arm was still reached out for Lindsay and she bit her lip at the loss of contact.

Won´t you come on over
Stop making a fool out of me
Oh why don´t you come on over Valerie

Marissa added a slightly begging tone to her voice and made a few steps into Lindsay´s direction. It took all she had to actually look sad, because she was having so much fun. She had almost forgotten how much she loved performing, and with Lindsay it felt even better.

Marissa had butterflies in her stomach like she usually did when she was singing in front of people, but seeing Lindsay smirk at her over her shoulder added an accelerating heartbeat to the whole situation.

She made another few steps forward, grabbed Lindsay´s hand and pulled her back into the center of the stage.

Lindsay looked down at their intertwined fingers and then up into Marissa´s smiling face.

Stop making a fool out of me
Oh why don´t you come on over Valerie
Valerie
Why don´t you come on over Valerie

They both belted out the final chorus of the song and Marissa squeezed Lindsay´s hand as they sang the final note.

The music faded away and the whole audience erupted into applause, but the two girls barely noticed it. They were staring at each other, their smiles so bright that Lindsay felt like they wouldn´t need any lamps to light the pub.

Marissa wanted to say something, tell Lindsay how amazing she felt, but there were no words coming out of her mouth. Instead she darted forward and pulled the other girl into a tight hug.

Lindsay buried her face in Marissa´s auburn hair, breathing in her scent. The other girl smelled like vanilla and Lindsay absolutely loved it.

They could have easily stayed like this forever, but they had to break apart eventually when the applause died down and some of the younger audience came up onto the stage and asked them for pictures.

They took pictures for a few minutes and thanked them for every compliment about their performance. In the end Lindsay even got one of the guys to take a picture of Marissa and her.

“Thanks!” she smiled at the guy and took her phone, turning back to Marissa. “That was awesome!” she couldn´t help but saying.

“Totally amazing! But unfortunately I have to go back to work.” Marissa smiled and disappeared into the direction of the bar while Lindsay, once again, pulled out her phone.

She must have stared at her changed profile picture for a while, because it took her some time to notice that Alex had commented on her status.

“What?” Lindsay read the message twice and still couldn´t figure out what Alex was talking about.

We saw? She thought. How did he see it? She was pretty sure he wasn´t talking about the picture, or was he?

“Are you ok?” Lindsay suddenly heard Marissa´s voice and raised her head. “You´ve been standing there for about ten minutes.”

“No…no I´m good.”

“Well ok, do you want something to drink now?” Marissa asked and Lindsay just nodded, following the other girl to the bar. She sat down on one of the stools and took a sip of the coke while sending a message to Alex.

She needed to know what was going on, and fortunately Alex replied very quickly.
