Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3Chapter 4 Lindsay entered the pub and let her eyes wander around. It looked very nice with the bar on the left, booths on the right and some tables in the middle. A mix of music, laughter and voices filled the air as Lindsay´s eyes found the small stage in the back.
She couldn´t wait to get up there and sing, especially with Marissa. Lindsay really missed performing and they hadn´t been singing together since the finale of the The Glee Project. She had loved Don´t stop believing and Raise your glass but Lindsay´s favorite time had been whenever she and Marissa had been doing something alone or with Damian and Cam.
“Hey beautiful.” Suddenly a face came into focus and Lindsay snapped back into reality. An elegantly dressed guy with short black hair smirked at her and Lindsay couldn´t help but raise one of her eyebrows.
“How does a pretty girl like you end up in a bar like this? Shouldn´t you be downtown New York in the VIP sections of the clubs?” He was still smirking at her and Lindsay didn´t know how to react. This might have just been one of the most uncreative pick up lines she had ever heard.
“You have got to be kidding me.” Lindsay turned her head and saw Marissa appearing next to her. “Jeremy if you value your life you´ll leave her alone!”
Wait, Marissa knew this guy?
Jeremy…Lindsay was positive that she had heard the name before. She took another look at him before it clicked. “Jeremy as in Jeremy your ex boyfriend?” she asked and Marissa nodded, positioning herself between Lindsay and Jeremy.
“Oh come on Marissa, you can´t ruin all of my chances with girl just because it didn´t work out between us.”
Marissa had told Lindsay about Jeremy and their train wreck of a relationship more than once. From what she had heard, Jeremy was a macho with an ego as big as the statue of Liberty and Marissa basically regretted every minute of their relationship. He had never been abusive to her, like Lindsay’s ex, but he was one of the reasons Marissa had become anorexic. She had failed to realize that it wasn’t her fault that he was cheating on her over and over again and had thought that if she lost more weight he would love her more.
Lindsay suddenly felt the anger rise in her chest. How dared he do this to Marissa? And then go on and hit on other girls, knowing he will probably treat them the same way?!
“So baby, how about I buy you a drink?” Jeremy pushed Marissa aside, the smirk still on his face. Lindsay wanted to say something, tell him to leave her and Marissa alone, but Marissa was faster.
“Ok Jeremy, if you wanna go and hit on some girl that screws everything with a heartbeat, that´s fine with me. But keep your hands off my girlfriend!”
The smirk fell from Jeremy´s face and Lindsay thanked God that he was too busy trying to sort out his thoughts, because she was sure that she wasn´t looking any better.
Lindsay´s heart had skipped a beat and was racing now, pumping blood into her cheeks. Girlfriend? Did Marissa really just call her that?
And why was Lindsay´s body reacting to it like this?
“So…you´re…you´re…” Jeremy asked confused, making some helpless gestures with his hands.
“Dating a girl? Yes. You made it perfectly clear to me that things with boys just don´t work out. And now I would appreciate it if you leave us alone.”
Lindsay was still in shock and it didn´t help that Marissa took her hand and pulled her towards the bar. The other girl´s touch was almost electric and Lindsay felt goose bumps on her skin.
She drew in a sharp breath and immediately felt the loss of contact when Marissa let go off her hand as they reached the bar.
“Sorry about that.” She said and pulled out one of the bar stools for Lindsay to sit down. “But he´s really not the kind of guy you wanna hook up with. I hope it was ok to say you´re my girlfriend? I mean…it was the only thing that would actually keep him away.”
If Lindsay didn´t know better, she would say that Marissa was blushing, but it was probably the lighting. Lindsay was quite thankful for that, because she could still feel the heat in her own cheeks.
“No…no that was…totally fine.” She managed to say and smiled at Marissa, who seemed to relax a bit and smiled back.
“Ok, I have to go back to work, but I´ll be around here, Karaoke starts at 8.30!”
Lindsay sat down on the barstool and looked around. The pub was well-attended but not too crowded. Most people seemed to be older than her and Marissa, maybe in their late twenties and early thirties. Jeremy seemed to have disappeared completely and Lindsay wasn´t complaining.
Karaoke was about to start and the first guy made his way up to the stage so Lindsay pulled out her phone to check her messages.
Damian hadn´t sent anything so she switched to facebook, but there seemed to be no news from her friend. She hadn´t decided whether this was good or bad, when she stumbled about Cameron´s recent status.
Lindsay stopped and furrowed her brows. The first thing she noticed was that Cameron had changed his profile picture, it no longer showed Damian and him. She also saw the likes of their friends who had probably thought that Cam was just posting the lyrics to a song that was going around in his head, but with all that was going on with Damian today, Lindsay wasn´t so sure.
Just a few seconds later her phone rang. “Cam?”
There was a short silence at the other end of the line before Cam spoke. “Hey Linds.”
“Are you ok?”
It took another few seconds for Cam to answer. “It´s stupid…I…” he stopped and Lindsay sighed.
“Is it about Damian?” she asked and her eyes followed Marissa, who was collecting glasses from the tables. She looked gorgeous, as always, but the dim light made her auburn hair stand out and Lindsay had a hard time focusing on Cam´s voice again.
“How…how do you know?” he asked and Lindsay finally turned away from Marissa and to the bar.
“I know things, so what happened?”
“Well…I don´t know, it´s stupid. It´s just that I feel like Damian was ignoring me today on set and then he didn´t come home. I don´t know where he is…I mean I thought he liked living with me.”
Cam´s voice sounded sad and it hurt Lindsay that she couldn´t tell him the truth. There had been many times where she had rolled her eyes and just wanted to tell them, because they were making things so complicated, but she never did.
“Damian is fine Cam, he was just really stressed out and right now he´s at Lea´s place, she snatched him away for dinner and to rehearse some scenes. His battery died while we were talking though, so that´s probably why he´s not calling. Don´t worry.”
This wasn´t exactly a lie, Lindsay was just trying to give Damian more time to sort his feelings out and gather up the courage to actually talk to Cameron.
“Really? Well I´ll just try to talk to him tomorrow, I probably overreacted didn´t I? Thanks Linds!”
Lindsay sighed and sent a message to Damian before she slid her phone back into her purse.
