II.

After JJ stopped talking to her Emily has to find something else to keep her occupied after work and on the weekends. Of course there’s always Garcia, whom Emily has told after one too many shots of cheap tequila at a bar that Emily is sure she wouldn’t even want to remember even if she could, why JJ and she have stopped talking. Or rather JJ stopped talking. And touching. And smiling. And even laughing when Emily is around. And being friendly to the other woman at all.

Sure, the whole team has noticed that something is off between the two formerly best friends. Hotch has even stopped to send the two of them on the road together. As a matter of fact, Emily isn’t sure why he hasn’t summoned them to his office already. Or maybe he has done so with JJ - Emily, after all, wouldn’t know. Anyway, with her, only Garcia has had the guts to ask. And Emily, who has never been able to hold her liquor, spilled. Everything. Every tiny little detail. And Garcia, being Garcia, instantly tried to cheer her up. Which didn’t work, of course but Emily wasn’t drunk enough not to pretend it did. Why hurt Garcia, too, after all? The only problem about it though: Since then, every time she’s gone out with Garcia, the very same has tried to set her up with some girl she has seen on the bar. So Emily stopped going out altogether.

Instead she goes for walks. Kilometer after kilometer though national parks, her gun always safely attached to her hip. Kick-ass FBI agent Emily Prentiss absolutely refuses to allow herself the embarrassment of being found slaughtered in the woods because she foolishly went for a walk alone and unarmed.
And while she walks, she prays. Which she, herself, still doesn’t understand. Because Emily has never been one for praying. She hasn’t had a very religious upbringing. Her parents are atheists - although they, of course, never say so in public - and Ambassador Prentiss thinks that religion is for sissies. And she has never wanted her precious little Emily to become a Sissy. Well, Emily certainly didn’t although in her mother’s eyes a FBI agent is just as bad. Still, however, Emily is praying to a God she has never really believed in. Because she likes the idea that there might be someone who is not disgusted by a woman who has fallen in love with her very beautiful coworker, who does understand what she, herself, has more or less accepted: that Emily Prentiss will always be in love with Special Agent Jennifer Jareau.
