This was a reply to a post regarding Apocalyptic thinking over in
skatche. It pretty much sums up my thinking on immanatizing the Eschaton, the Apocalypse (which I've been thinking about since seeing The Omen and 6/6/6), etc.
I agreed with ya up until you said
the fact remains that at the moment things really suck.
the fact remains that people throughout time have thought that their particular epoch was the last one.
And so far, they've all been wrong--each and every single one of them.
If people find an Apocalyptic Vision to be highly motivating for them to create Change, then by all means, Apocalypse away! But don't mistake a highly motivational meme for The Truth(TM) that must be enForced upon all who Breathe.
Unfortunately, like you said, most Apocalypse heads use that meme as a Way out--a way out of responsibility, a way out of accountability. It's much easier to sit back and watch the show, particularly when you Know You're Right.
Personally, I believe in immanatizing the eschaton, which is perhaps the Chaote's version of The End Times. It says that the End Times are every moment, as we are all constantly reCreating the Now (and the Past, and the Future). Another personal meme I hold dear is that Gaia does not need "saving" from "us". No matter what we do, the Earth will be fine. I'm quite sure of that. Wee humans, on the other hand, could very easily fuck up our own personal future survival on this great spaceship Earth. I'm not concerned about that, either. My own personal beLIEfs tell me that whether wee silly humans exist or not is not really a matter of Universal Concern.
And yet, I still do small things to Create My World in a matter fitting my Vision. I spend 4/7ths of my Life helping sick children Learn and Practice Skills to have a slightly better chance at making a Life of their choosing. I spend the time and energy to help raise my girlfriend's 2 boys, that they might also be good young men. I try and Project constant good healthy "vibes" wherever I go, thoughout my entire Life (that one takes some effort at times). In many ways, I try to be the Role-Model/Example of what "I" think people should act like, without Expecting that anyone else ever will (this is called Living with Integrity by some, IIRC). I Write and Babble-on (and soon will Teach!) in the small hope that Sharing something I've Experienced will be of some use to someone, somewhere, at sometime.
But I don't worry too much if I can't accomplish all or any of these things, either. I do them because they all provide me with a sense of Meaning, Purpose, Satisfaction, Pride, and many other things, and I believe it's the Process of Doing them that is more important than their actual Accomplishment, anyway. I've found that when I just Do my thang, I often get confirmation in some way that my Intent is being met, in ways that are particular to each of my countless Life Goals. These confirmations are huge motivators for me, but that's the way I've set up my NeuroLogickal system.
The World is Changing, constantly being Molded by the Consciousnesses of the Ten Thousand Things... how are you Forming your World?
