Ye gods... what to say? A year ago I was laying in my bed recovering from a very traumatic delivery while Devin was doing likewise in the very capable hands of the Northwest NICU. I wouldn't even really get to see her till after midnight. And, my GOD, when I did see my darling little girl in her incubator, her little knit pink hat on, I just melted. When I got to hold her that first time it was magic. I was hooked on her from the very first second.
Devin is one! *dies* It's been an ok month. Both Devin and I have been sick since mid Sept. She's STILL sniffling and sleeping more, and I'm still stuffed up and ALWAYS tired. Even sleeping 9 hours isn't refreshing. So that's been a bit of a damper on us :P. But still Devin moves forward, growing and learning and amazing me on a daily basis.
All I want to do these days is scoop her up and just kiss her all over! She is the sweetest little thing in the world. She is VERY active, same as always. She's into everything. She loves both her reflection and pictures of her on the computer. She dances like the music's in her SOUL, whether or not she actually HEARS music. She continues to play with things more and eat them less, so I'm letting her do things like tear down her books from her bookshelves without TOO much fear ;). She's actually VERY into her books now. She's playing more games with us, and initiating them herself sometimes. She LOVES to hand us stuff, and if she's eating something she shouldn't be and I ask for it she'll hand it to me! She's putting toys acurately back into her open bucket. She's not putting the rings back on the stacker yet, but she's close :).
She's standing a lot more, for longer. Her balance is getting worlds better. She also doesn't always fall, sometimes she grabs back onto whatever she's near, sometimes she bends her knees to lower herself down in a controlled manner. It's crazy and wonderful. I'm sure walking is just around the corner. Just this week she's started walking for me when I hold her hands! I almost wanna say she might have taken her first step yesterday, but it's hard to tell - she was standing at the coffee table, turned to face her toys and kinda stepped toward them but she went down right away. Either way it's coming soon I'm sure. She kneels a lot now too, and again it seems her balance is very good. Her agility is wonderful too, has been for a while. She can duck under things to retrieve toys and get back out without hurting herself :). As I said, she's EVERYWHERE!
Thanks to this cold we don't swaddle anymore. She would wake up because with the paci in and her nose stuffed up she couldn't breathe, then she'd cry and cry till I put paci back in, so it got to the point where it made more sense to leave her unswaddled so she could just put it back herself, and she has been. It's a little rougher getting her down initially sometimes, but she does stay asleep once she goes down, usually for 12 hours. She takes 2 naps for the most part now too. I thought we were heading toward 1, but this cold has messed us up. Today was a 3 nap day! So we'll see how that goes I guess.
Sometimes, when she's tired and in my arms, she'll lay her head down on my shoulder and it is one of my favorite things in the WORLD right now. With this no swaddle thing it's been happening more to me and I love it. She also does this adorable affectionate thing where she'll bend her head toward me so that we touch forheads gently, almost like instead of a kiss. *LOVE* And I love how her perfect little hands hold onto me, when I'm holding her or we're playing or she's nursing or even she's standing and using me as her balance. And the smiles she gives me are almost too much, hehe.
She can still wear Carter's 9 month but for the most part she's in 12 month clothes now, though some are big on her. She's still in 2-3 swaddlers diapers. She does wear shoes now, though we don't put them on her all the time. Grandma Blazek uses them far more often than we do. It was dramaful the first time, as expected, but she tolerates her little Vans pretty well now. When she actually starts walking we'll get her shoes with harder soles, but for now, these are just perfect to get her used to wearing them. These are a size 4 :).
And sounds, OH the sounds! She LOVES to sing with me now, she sings "aaahhh" along with me. She's a very musical baby. She's got some words now. Her "puppy" is "ooo! ooo!" short and quick, which is ACTUALLY "woof woof" ;). She sees a lot of dogs at my job, so she appearently picked up their bark, hee hee. When she's hungry she says "nom nom", often pointing at either food or my boobs ;). She says hi now, and sometimes even waves with it. She babbles a LOT and it's sounding more and more like talking. She points to things and says "whasthis", "whasha" or now "whostha" in the SWEETEST little voice. She kinda sounds like she knows what she's asking, but since we always answer her I'm sure right now it's mostly learned responce. She still howls, though it's more like "mmmm" with her head thrown back ;). She as an "I want attention" half cry/whine now. And she laughs and squeals and raspberries and on and on.
Food... Devin does love her food. We've not let her try with utensils on her own yet but she's VERY good ahout holding very still and eating off of spoons and forks for us, or drinking from cups or straws. She's a champ at self feeding with her fingers ;). Chicken is a huge hit. She seems to like broccoli. Bread and rice are love. Bananas continue to rule. And stage 3 Gerber food is a win, she eats them all. The Gerber fruit strips are a BIG hit, but she doesn't like the fruit snacks at ALL. Dried fruit seems good. She loves their cheese crackers and graham cookies a lot too. And those yogurt melts, always a hit. I'm going to ask at the ped tomorrow about what she should be eating now, how much, at all, but so far she has just the BEST appetite in the WORLD. We're still nursing too, anywhere from 3-6 times a day, depending on if I work or if we go out, etc. And we're still at 7 teeth with no sign of any more right now.
She's still social as ever. Anyone can hold her and while sometimes she reaches for me or Dave or Grandma Diane, for the most part she's content in anyone's arms. She's SUCH a flirt, especially in restaurants, chatting up the staff and other patrons alike ;). And other little people? Forget it! She LOVES them, points and waves and talks. It's adorable.
She's soft and sweet and smells good. Her baby breath is heaven. She fights me now for diaper changes, though recently she's more cooperative for clothes changes. We can't really keep socks on her ;). She's strong and firm and just feels SO GOOD to me. Happy birthday, Miss Devin Rose. You are my pefect little angel and I can't imagine my life without you. And I can't wait to see what comes next!!
It was a good time. Dave's parents, siblings & wives, grandparents and aunts were there, and his cousins sent some gifts. She got a bunch of neat toys, some nice clothes and some AWESOME Halloween clothes ;). She was happily social and I think had a lovely time.
Presents!!
Gift diving.
Loving on her new fuzzy book.
Yay bloks!!
She did eventually get the hang of unwrapping gifts.
*sings* Happy birthday!!
She liked her cake, vanilla with strawberry filling and buttercream (I think) frosting.
She loves to share, hehe.
Ta da!
Good times, playing with her new stuff :).
We went to JCP and had a really good photographer this time. We had 4 out fits, and in 40 minutes (with 1 nursing break) we got pics in them all! Plus we had a 50% off coupon so we got a ton of pics for just under $100. Yay!! I'm pleased this time (her 6 month pics were less pleasing).
Whew! I think that's everything. Today was chill, we just had a lovely lunch at Hooters. She had a GREAT time flirting :). She seems more under the weather today, so it's involved a lot of nursing and sleeping. I love you Devin!!!
