There are some absolutely outstanding nurses out there. There are some outstanding hospital administration people out there. Unfortunately there are also all the rest.
I don't care how quiet a person is. I don't care if a person is yelling and screaming and rolling around the floor. You have no fucking idea how much pain that person is in. You have no right to say they are making it up. You have no right to say that they don't need pain medication. You have no right to say that they should take less pain medicine.
Yes, narcotics can be addictive. Yes, a person should get off of pain medicine as soon as they reasonably can. You should not say that to someone that you don't know. Between my mom, my dad's surgeon, and my dad's cardiologist, they can't fucking keep up with these idiotic nurses and doctor wannabes. My dad is not someone you can tell to get off of pain medicine. If he's asking for it, he fucking needed it an hour ago. If he's taking it, he needs it.
I can't count how many times in the hospital his nurses told him that he shouldn't take his pain medicine. I can't count how many times my mom tried to undo the damage they did. His surgeon was fantastic..but he isn't there all the time. The fucking nurses are. Now..that said, he had some absolutely outstanding nurses...but it only takes one of the other kind to go and mess everything up. He had more than one of them.
And now the fucking doctor wannabe refilled his prescription with not even enough medicine to last until Friday when he's supposed to meet with his cardiologist again.
This would bother me enough if I didn't hear it from my mom over and over again. She gets furious. She tells the nurses to give a patient 15mg of whatever..and they give them 5 because 15 seems like more than they should need. Who was it again that went to medical school? Who was it with the M.D. next to their name? Not you. That's for sure. Nurses know a lot of stuff that doctors don't. However, they have no right to override what the doctor says when the doctor does know. I can't count how many times mom has gone into the hospital because a patient's family finally called her because they couldn't get adequate pain control... when mom told the nurses to call her if the patient complained about pain at all.
Are there people that make up pain for a high? Yes. Do people roll around on the floor screaming for nothing more than an upset stomach? Yes. Do you have the right to decide which ones are which? No.
