 After a few days of beautiful weather, with one glorious day of temperatures in the 70's, Michigan has once again decided to crush my spirits with temperature plunges and promises of icy rain or even snow.

Just in case I vanish again, the news is predicting another icy winter storm coming in tonight, with more power outages possible.

I can't catch a break.

I finally have power, despite the best efforts of the power company.  I had the option of spending another night at my brother's place, but we both would have preferred I didn't.  So, this morning, I contacted the power company and was told the power at my residence had been restored.  So it was with great delight that I went home this afternoon, ( Read more... )

I've had  a miserable time of it the past few days.  Sunday night, our run of good weather ended with an ice storm that resulted in a 50-car pile-up and 40,000 people without power - including me.  I was completely unprepared; I don't have any candles or flashlights, and no food that could be eaten without being cooked first.  And my efforts to ( Read more... )

Oh.  Joy.  After a handful of days where the weather is not just tolerable, but gorgeous (40-50 degrees after twenty days below freezing!) we're getting one of Michigan's lovely temperature plunges this weekend, involving a nasty snowstorm with icy rain and below freezing temperatures.  Argh!  I hate this area so much...

* Snowpocalypse was... interesting.  I woke up this morning with the radio going on about 10"-18" in areas, and a 'blizzard emergency' in my town.  Then I looked outside and saw that the unplowed parking lot was, at first glance, clear.  My car didn't even have any visible snow on it.  Closer investigation revealed that it had snowed a lot, but the ( Read more... )

Wow.  The news had been saying all weekend that we were going to be hit by a big winter storm, but the warnings that are popping up now are almost frightening.  We're under a blizzard warning until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, with the possibility of some 20".  The scary bits are warnings that everyone should stay indoors, and  to only travel during ( Read more... )
