it has not been the best couple of days. I'm currently in NoVA, however, and that makes me very happy, and additionally, people are coming back to Charlottesville, so that means I might actually get a chance to see people... occasionally, except for the fact that I have terrible hours at work.

Anyway, I haven't really been posting much because there hasn't been much to post. every single day seems exactly like the last, and everything is so blurred I can't believe it's almost September already. Two things of note. First, my parking pass was stolen out of the back window of my car on Friday. I'm not sure if it happened in the morning before I went to work, or during my lunch break, but I forgot to lock my car when I was parked at Brandon, and I noticed when I got out to my car after work on Friday that it was gone from the back window. My cell phone, which was sitting in plain view on my dashboard wasn't stolen, nor was my torque wrench on the front passenger's seat. I'm hoping that MSC will allow me a temporary pass for a week so that I have the opportunity to check the other cars in the lot and find the one with my parking pass (since they are numbered). I really don't want to pay the $30 replacement fee.

Secondly, I'm now back to using the stupid temporary spare on my car. (Some of you may remember how happy i was when I got a fullsized rim and spare tire for my car last year). Well, I ruined the rim today on my drive up from cville. I was taking a slightly different route than normal- a back road just south of Purcellville. The road was paved, but not wide enough to get the double yellow line down the middle. As I crested a hill, I saw a big Ford pickup truck coming towards me. However, this one was one of those stupid damned redneck ones that's been jacked up with the really wide tires and everything. I slowed down to what I thought was a reasonable speed of ~25mph (not sure exactly), and drifted to the right hand side of the road. Unfortunately, the edge of the road was crumbling a bit and i hit a pothole on the side of the road. As my wheel went into the pothole, I think what happened is that the inside wall of my tire caught the pavement and tore. At that point all the air came suddenly out of my tire and the rim then dropped onto the edge of the pavement, and as it did so i actually bent the edge of it. So, that's about $130 of damage in about 50 milliseconds. Fortunately I do have a spare tire and rim, so I don't need to deal with this immediately, but it still really pissed me off because if it hadn't been one of those damned hick trucks, I would have been fine. Or if I hadn't been stupid and taken the backroads, I would have been fine.

Anyway, long story short. The first thing I thought when I heard the bang and new the tire had gone was that I think I may have hit another one of those streches where things aren't going to go well for me. We shall see, but I'm not at all happy at the moment.

not the happiest of posts, but I really am looking forward to being in cville with everyone around. I know people will be busy with homework and such, but I've actually seen less of everyone this summer than I did during the school year. So, if you're in Cville and want to hang out with me at some point after midnight, let me know. I'm thinking about changing my shift, or maybe working somewhere else completely, but we'll see if that actually happens.
