Fishy mumbles

I'm bored, so I will type about fish. I'm slooowly losing tetras. As you know (if you've been paying attention) I have two fishy tanks- an itsy-bitsy one for Dalek, my betta, and a 10-gallon one. Lately I've been completely slacking off on my fish maintenance. Really. As in, I haven't cleaned the tanks in about 4-5 months, maybe longer, and they are quite green with algae. I *do* give them fresh water and change the filter pad in the 10-gallon every once in a while, but that's about it.

Surprisingly, the fish don't seem to mind that much. I set these tanks up last...July? I think? Around there. No, wait! I remember! It was June, because I had totally let the 10-gallon go to hell because I thought there were no fish in it, then Bri saw Shini swimming around on my birthday and I started it back up again. Started the 10-gallon with 6 neon tetras and another upside-down catfish to be friends with Shini. One of the tetras died almost immediately; for some reason, this is a rule. I can *only* have five tetras. I tried to add a sixth one again later, and it died. Five is the magic number. They held steady at five for a while. The last few months, I've been *sloooowly* losing them. Down to just two now, the third one died yesterday (the only one I've found an actual body for, btw). But they're neon tetras- seriously, I'm surprised they lasted this long. The catfish, of course, are fine- seriously, upside-down catfish, in my experience at least, are UNKILLABLE. These guys are the hardiest things in the world, but boring because you never see them if you have *anything* they can hide under. Dalek the betta grew a funny lumpy thing on his back fin, which is essentially a lump and not a fin anymore, but doesn't seem to care and is still eating greedily.

I've come to a conclusion about fish. They're boring. Damn boring. Except Oscars, who are cool and eat live minnows and have personality and charm and will let you pet them, and those need a HUUGE tank as adults. SO, I'm not getting any new fish. I'll either find someone to take my tanks, or at least my 10-gallon, or just let it wind down slowly until all the fish are dead and then turn it into a reptile tank. Dalek I'll keep til the end of his lifespan, but with that funny lumpy thing, even though it doesn't seem to bother him, I'm not sure how long he'll last. Bettas live a maximum of five years, but who knows how old he was when I got him? Plus, the lumpy thing may be, y'know, fish cancer or something. Eh. So, playing the waiting game with the fish tanks. Anybody out there want 'em? Free to good or mediocre home?

Oooo, oooo, P.S.- I ACTUALLY SAW RODNEY ON THE WHEEL TODAY FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER OMG. Maybe the little fat butterball will start to get in shape! OR maybe it was a one-off, who knows.
