My balls
Now there's a potentially innuendo-laden entry title. ^__~ Anywho, I haven't written about this, so...I built my rack (three tiers, with the top shelf left empty as a potential extension) on Halloween. As I was building it, I realized that I could have designed it a *whole lot* better, but as I was already nearly done, I thought "Eh, what the hell" and finished hooking it up. It works! Well, I knew it would, but my design made the wiring and transport a little awkward. Still, live and learn, eh? My next rack will be better for my experience here. Later that night, I went and picked up my new big female ball from Zookeeper ^____^ Her name is Root, because she will be the 'root' of my BP breeding project. Get it? Haha? It is to laugh.
She's gorgeous, and around the beginning of December (if all goes well) I'll be putting her together with Stick and determining if his five-year stint of solitude has knocked the breeding instinct out of him, or just made him *really* horny. Hopefully it will be the latter, and I will make KYOOOT little BP babies. I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS!!! OMG YAAAAY!!! My other big plan for this season is to pick up a het for albino male either at the reptile expo in San Antonio Nov. 11th, or at the one here in Austin early Dec. So next season I can make some possible hets! And keep all the girls! And then grow them up big, and in two years, with a little luck...ALBINOS!! But this is just the start. *warning: technical snake babble below, some research may be necessary to translate*
Really, looking at all the morphs of BP out there now, and thinking of how they can be bred in combinations to make new morphs...it boggles the mind. It makes me feel like we're just *barely* brushing the tip of what we can do with these great snakes. My personal goal is to produce an Albino Pied (which may take me a good 4-5 years or more, doing it the slow-but-cheaper way), but there are so many combinations, it's endless! It makes me so excited, I think I might pop sometimes, thinking about all the awesome snakes that are gonna show up over the next decade or so. I wanna Axanthic Pied, an' a Mojave Pied (it'll be interesting to see how pied will interact with the blue-eyed lucy you get from mojavexmojave crosses...hopefully it'll clean up the 'dirty' look they sometimes get, but really, no way to tell!), an' a Coral Glow (I LOVE THESE SOOO MUCH BUT THE ONLY ONES IN THE WORLD BELONG TO NERD AND THEY'RE SOOOOO EXPENSIVE), an' a black-eyed leucistic (in a perfect world, I'll eventually have all three varieties of pure white ball pythons-pink-eyed, blue-eyed, and black-eyed), an', an'...I give up. There are too many. :P I LOVE THEM ALLL!!!
P.S.- I think Saber heard me bathing Stick in the bathroom and decided to give it a try. He's been in his water bowl for nearly three hours now...silly :P
