Piked off of slavelabour...

"Comment and I will give you a colour and then you pick ten things you like in that colour..."

Alizarin Crimson - the oil paint. It’s a stain, like sap green, ultramarine blue and one or two others - it means they have a weird translucency to them that makes the colour even stronger even purer, like stained glass. Alizarin is the most glorious imperial red and my favourite of all the oils.
Velvet - the lush silk kind that has a soft shine to it and looks so deep and fluid it’s more like something alive than a piece of material. Also (although it wasn’t velvet) a long patchwork gypsy skirt I bought when I was sixteen, made of different shades of blood red. Before that I hadn’t cared for red at all and never really wore it, thinking it was garish. I’ve loved deep shades of red ever since.
Raspberries - does that count as red? Damned if I know but they’re really really tasty so shuttup. Oh, and those red berries - the really poisonous ones. Sometimes when I see them hanging off a briar in winter I have to spend a lot of willpower not to eat them because they look dramatic and somehow like they aught to be eaten.
Books - the really old 18century sort bound in oxblood leather, thick and heavy and a little warped round the edges like they were left in the sun and melted a bit.
Poppies - Although sometimes they can depress me, but field poppies on their tall-string stalks with paper-thin petals. I like seeing them in Ladywell park.
Blood - Erm. In an artistic kinda context, okay? Come on, it’s such a ridiculous colour - it’s like someone whacked the contrast up. And then it changes colour as it oxodizes and the cells die. That’s really kinda cool. Mm, me and my skewed aesthetic sense.
Hair dye - of the rubies at midnight variety. Totally fake, no one is ever born with hair that colour, but it looks darkly opulent.
Ashriel’s contact lenses - or rather, my contact lenses, Ashriel’s eyes. They weren’t the bright brash livid red you would expect, they were dark and translucent like melted garnet. (Which reminds me...)
Garnet - or ruby, or dyed freshwater pearls, or some carnelians and jade, poppy jasper... all the semi-precious stones you can get in all their many forms of red. Especially the ones which I have beads of and can make into necklaces =)
Sealing wax - and the wax one used to get on top of bottles. Seals are cool.

The second meme runs thus:
1. Go to Wikipedia.org. Select 'Random Article'. Whatever comes up is the name of your band.
2. Go to quotationspage.com. Select 'Random Quote'. Choose any quote you like on the page, the last few words of the quote are your album title.
3. Go to flickr.com. Select 'Explore'. Select 'Interesting photos from the last 7 days'. The third image is your album cover.
4. Go to any photo editing site or use Photoshop/Gimp/..., and put your mad editing skillz to work.

For anyone who cares to know, Anthene kersteni is apparently a small butterfly, and no, I don't know why the 'k' is lowercase. The full quote is, "Only dull people are brilliant at breakfast." - Oscar Wilde, An Ideal Husband, Act I. And the track titles are from the other quotes on the page.

I visited my mother today. The place was good with a lot of competent and hands-on staff. Although it did smell quite overpoweringly of TCP, pee, and cleaning products. (Which made some of my neurons go off on a weird imagining about a Victorian asylum/hospital with tiled floors and a small army of maids scrubbing at things with lye soap.) My clothes smell ever so faintly of the home. Blah.

=====

I've started the mock up of my coat. Not convinced by the Vogue pattern so far, but I'm hoping it'll improve after being vigorously stabbed with pins.

=====

My neurons appear to have begun a sequel coda epilogue? to the Javert story without my permission. By which I mean I had no intention of writing anything further on the subject. Then at 2am suddenly there's a bunch of stuff scrolling through my head and I'm having to type in fragments just to get it all down before it disappears.
