Last night was the big game against the Bengals in basketball (but they play football, yes I know) and now I'm left with the memories and some aches and pains. It was fun though and a story I'll have to share with the grandkids someday, if I ever find a willing grandmother to be first.
Real Bengal fans will remember that last season, Chad Johnson celebrated a touchdown by putting on a sports coat that had 'Hall of Famer 20??' on the back, so for fun, since I write for the towns newspaper during the announcement of the players I put on a suit coat and had a sign that said 'Pulitzer Prize Winner 20??' I thought it was funny, but most people probably didn't get it and made me look like an idiot. Which I managed to do several times through the night.
I was first called into the game during the first quarter and felt rather small next to the massive Bengal players. And my first shot attempt was quickly swatted back by Chris Henry to welcome me in.
Next, I was given the ball to dribble down the court and promptly had it stolen by Chris Henry who took it in for a slam dunk.
I was begenning to see why Chris Henry was arrested four times in one year, he plays dirty. And I was kind of frustrated because they are by far the superior athletes and could have let me get the ball at least passed half court and a shot off without slapping it right back in my face.
So my goal became to get revenge on Chris Henry to steal or slap by ball away from him just once, but his speed and ability was just to much for me.
A miracle did occur though, I made a basket. It was pass in from out of bands, under our basket and went right to me as I was in the lane and threw it up and was nothing but net. Pretty Amazing.
I was glad to see halftime come though as I was out of breath, sweaty and had been running more than I had for years. Not good!
In the second half, I was all alone one play at our end of the court and the ball was thrown to me on a long pass and got a little over anxious and fell right on my face. At least the crowd got a good laugh from it.
And my other shot attempt, I so so afraid of it getting blocked I threw it up right away and it sailed over the entire backboard. I felt like a fool again.
Though between the good and the bad it was all fun and worth the humiliation and the aches and pains i feel today.
