fic: Quiet Moments
rating: pg
disclaimer: I don't know these people. I'm not making any money.
summary: The stress and attention in Australia get to Lea and she needs a little timeout. Dianna makes sure she gets it.
A/N: Did anyone else read the Women's Health article and feel their heart squeeze a little when they quoted Matt about the event in Australia? This kinda hit me and here it is. It's not beta-d so all mistakes are mine, apologies. I kinda wrote this and got it out as fast as I could, it's pretty short. Comments are love.

Dianna leaned over to Cory who was standing next to her as they signed autographs and met fans outside of an Australian studio. They were there promoting Glee and the fans were amazing and plentiful. "This is crazy! I can't believe how many people are here!" she said as quietly as she could and still have him hear over all the screaming and singing.
"I know! This is insane!" He grinned as he signed another poster then CD and then a baby. Wait, a baby? Whatever. They couldn't believe this was their life. He leaned over and wrapped an arm around Dianna's shoulder as someone asked for a picture.
Neither could wipe the smiles from their faces, and looking around, none of their cast mates, their family, could either.
Dianna glanced up ahead a little where she knew Matt and Lea had been signing and greeting and smiling too. Her smile dropped for a moment when she couldn't find Lea. Turning back to the fans she fixed it back in place as she signed another CD. Leaning over to Cory again, she quietly asked, "Do you see Lea? I don't see her up by Matt anymore and you're taller than me."
Cory, still grinning like a kid in a candy shop (or you know, like Finn), looked around. His brow furrowed slightly when he also couldn't find their diminutive costar anywhere. He looked back down to see Dianna with a smile fixed firmly in place, only a little crease between her eyebrows giving her away. He shook his head and leaned down to her ear. "I don't see her. She was up by Matt, but she's not anymore."
Dianna gave a small nod in acknowledgment and squeezed his arm as she shuffled by him. She was a little worried. Of course she trusted their security, but Lea was tiny. She just wanted to make sure for herself. She kept a smile on her face and continued to sign autographs and pose for pictures as she made her way toward Matt as quickly as she could without being rude.
Finally reaching Matt's side, he turned to grin at her. "Dianna! Isn't this amazing?" She smiled and nodded as she continued to greet the fans waiting for them. She was starting to feel a little overwhelmed with all the attention, and her worry for Lea wasn't helping. Grabbing Matt's arm lightly, she leaned into him for a picture. Before moving away she turned her head and asked quietly if he knew where Lea was in the crowd now.
He wrapped an arm around her shoulders for more pictures as he quietly explained. "They all wanted her attention and her picture, and she was feeling a little overwhelmed. I think they got her out of the crowd to go somewhere quiet and calm down." He didn't tell Dianna that Lea had been crying when they led her away.
Dianna's worry escalated. Lea loved the fans, but she knew that this crowd as really intense. They had been shouting for Lea the moment they all stepped outside. Forgetting the crowd for a moment, Dianna turned to fully face Matt. "Do you know where?" He shook his head and squeezed her arm reassuringly. She nodded then moved past him to sign more merchandise before she worked her way over to someone on their staff.
"Take me to Lea, now," she said firmly. The security person looked a little out of sorts. He didn't know if he was allowed to do that; on the other hand, he was supposed to be working for the cast. Plus, he didn't actually know what the girl was talking about. Deciding, he gently took her elbow and started to guide her through the crowd, talking into his radio as he went.
Finally figuring out what was going on and who the girl was demanding to see, he slightly altered their direction and led the blonde back toward where they had set up a trailer to act as a central point for their security team. He knocked on the door when they got there and one of the team members opened the door. He took one look at the determination on the blonde's face and stepped outside to allow her to enter. Shutting the door, he posted himself in front of it and told the other man to go back to help with the crowd.
Dianna entered the trailer quietly and quickly looked over to the couch tucked on one side. She immediately saw Lea curled into a ball on the end. Diana quickly made her way over and dropped to kneel in front of Lea.
"Lea, baby," she whispered and reached up to stroke Lea's dark hair away from her face. Lea turned her head into Dianna's hand and tried to wipe away the tears from her cheek. "Oh, baby," Dianna cooed at her seeing the tear tracks. She climbed on to the couch next to Lea and pulled her into her arms. "C'mere, baby. It's ok." Dianna shushed and rocked and soothed Lea as she held her as close as possible. Lea just buried her face against Dianna and tried to control her sniffles and tears.
Pressing her lips against Lea's hair, Dianna whispered to her continuously until the shaking seemed to lessen. She wasn't entirely sure that Lea was the only one shaking, but either way, it was calming down. Dianna moved her lips to Lea's forehead and her hand settled tangled in Lea's hair at the back of her head. "What is it, baby?"
Lea sniffled delicately again before she whispered her answer. "It was just too much Di. I love them, all of them, but it was just too much." Dianna shushed her again and rubbed her hand up and down Lea's back soothingly.
"It's ok, baby. They know you love them. It's ok." She hated seeing Lea like this. It wasn't normal. Lea was always bubbly and energetic and eager to meet all of their Gleeks. "It's crazy out there, and I know you want to be there, baby, but it's ok to need a break." She kissed Lea's head again as she held her. "It's ok," she said again.
When Lea had finally calmed down, she tilted her head and pressed her lips to Dianna's neck. "Thanks, baby."
Dianna push Lea's chin up just enough to meet her lips while she wiped the last of her tears away with her thumb. "What do you need?" she asked quietly.
Lea turned her face back into Dianna's neck, and pressing another kiss there, she whispered, "Will you just hold me for a bit? Just a bit longer, please?"
Dianna's arms tightened around the girl in lap, as if she could ward off anymore sadness from reaching her. "Of course, baby."

Later, after they'd finally returned to the hotel, Dianna tucked Lea into bed to take a nap before they all went out for dinner later. Dianna pulled the drapes in their shared room before she kissed Lea's lips then her forehead and told her to get some rest.
"Stay?" was the quiet response. Lea's hand gripped Dianna's before she could move away from the bed.
Dianna kissed Lea's forehead again and let her lips linger there as she whispered against the skin. "I'll be back, I promise. I'm going to go make sure everyone knows you're ok and find about dinner later, then I'll come right back. Ok?" Lea nodded and let Dianna's hand go. "Please try to fall asleep before I get back." Lea nodded again, her eyes drifting closed.
Fifteen minutes later, Dianna slipped quietly back into the room. Sliding her shoes off, she crawled into the bed and scooted in behind Lea, draping an arm across her waist. Lea immediately rolled over so that she could tuck herself against Dianna's chest. She murmured sleepily, half waking up, but as soon as she settled against Dianna, she was asleep again.
Dianna doubled checked the alarm on her phone and set it behind her on the bed. She stroked her hand over Lea's hair and pressed a kiss to her head before wrapping her arm tightly around Lea and pulling the woman into her as close as possible. Lea unconsciously snuggled closer, her lips brushing Dianna's shirt near her collar bone. Dianna smiled lazily at the woman in her arms, closed her eyes, and drifted off.
When her alarm sounded ninety minutes later, both Lea and Dianna woke refreshed, and ready for everything else that was coming in the following days. They couldn't imagine, and couldn't wait to find out, what things were going to be like back home when the show started airing again in the fall. They just hoped for enough quiet moments together when they could regroup and get ready to face the next day's excitement.
