title: never grow up
rating: pg-13
genre: fluff
pairing: sunny&sungmin
they'll go through the motions because they mean nothing.
'sunny, you're getting fat.'
'sungmin, you all ready are fat.'
they'll go through the motions because they're all they know.
'my gosh sungmin, sing a little more off key why don't you.'
'this is coming from the tone deaf dwarf?'
it's this game of push and pull and shove and tackle. it's rough and tiring, but neither of them want to stop playing because it's the only game they've become good at that they actually like.
(because everyone knows sunny isn't allowed to be a snarky bitch and can only offer eye smiles and heart wrenching giggles. because sungmin has to live up to his mature image and can't unveil his child like banter.)
they both know what they say doesn't mean a thing to either of them; they're these baseless, groundless insults that fly in the air to fall flat for their inside humor.
(sometimes sungmin will take a little too far and she'll smile weakly, trying to laugh it off. he then promised himself to never make fun of her fear of loud noises again and easily gives up food the next time she asks for it.) (sometimes, sunny just doesn't want to insult him. she just wants to stay there with him, in that place where she knows she can be herself, and he can just laugh and throw something witty right back.)
they'll go through the motions each day at a time, because they need too. quite honestly, sunny doesn't give a fuck if seohyun or hyoyeon hear her faintly curse under her breath and rid herself of all aegyo.
quite honestly, sungmin likes that about her the most.
'i saw your interview yesterday .. was your excessive eyelash fluttering and lip pouting necessary?' he asks her one day when he has her all to himself.
(and they think it's just natural that they end up together, because while everyone is too busy flirting, they just want to have intellectual smack downs.) (they don't really notice that their feet and eyes instantly search for each other when they hear they're in the room.)
'you know, most people (men) find it cute.'
'i'm not most people.'
'you're right, you're just you. not as special as most people, i would say.'
there's this string of silence because there always is, and sunny always thinks the same thoughts: did i actually hurt him this time? did i shove too hard? but instead she watches as the corners of his lips pull into this smile and her heart swells up just a little, but it's only out of relief. they allow themselves to laugh and they don't know why, but they actually kind of do.
(sungmin isn't as special as most people. he's even more special, and they don't know it, but their laughs chime through the sm lounge and carry that message that everyone else can hear except for the two of them.)
(they'll hear it eventually.
'so .. you actually looked pretty today during your performance,' he tells her over the phone one night.
sunny snorts, 'did you just compliment me?'
'you're right, i must be going delirious. it is 3:47 a.m. after all.'
'i kind of like it when you go delirious,' she whispers lazily as she traces hearts into her pillow.
'did you just say you like something i do?'
sunny laughs. 'you're right, i must be going delirious too.'
she tells him good night and hangs up. she just kind of likes everything he does.)
