Summary: Hermione wakes up and finds things to be very different.
As Hermione slowly woke up, she became aware of two things. The first was that she was lying on the cold stone floor of the dungeons and her head was throbbing horribly. The second was that Professor Snape was glaring at her while he had his wand pressed to her throat, which in turn only made her head hurt more. As she started at him, Hermione realized that the person, who was glaring at her, wasn’t her feared Professor. The sneer was by far colder and harder, yet the man was much younger, she thought he was closer to her own age than the Professor’s. There was no trace of the bitter cynicism that her Professor had from living a double life on this young man’s face. Instead there was distrust, hatred and anger. Despite the differences, Hermione couldn’t help but wonder if the two were somehow related because the colouring was identical as were the features. She briefly wondered if her Professor had looked like this young man when he was that age. If that was the case, then she could see where the vampire rumours had originated.
“Who are you?”
”I could ask you the same question,” Hermione tartly replied in response to the snarky tone.
“I am not the one who suddenly appeared out of nowhere in a school with anti-apparation spells.”
”Excuse me, I did not just appear out of thin air, I was working on a potion,” Hermione explained as she stood up.
As she looked around, she realized that the once cramped potions lab was very different in appearance. The table that she had been working on had been shoved against a wall and was covered with an assortment of cauldrons and flasks. Instead of a cabinet of potions supplies, there were a series of shelves with a variety of items including more flasks and textbooks. As her eyes turned back to the young Snape-look-a-like, she found that he had his arms crossed against his chest with a mocking look on his face.
“Where is this potion?”
”I-I don’t know,” Hermione hesitantly replied.
“Perhaps he should pay a visit to the Head Master and you can explain how you suddenly appeared out of thin air in a storage closet where you were supposedly making a potion.”
”I really was working on a potion,” Hermione wearily stated as she rubbed her eyes.
”Of course you were.”
”Don’t patronize me!”
”Then perhaps you could quit wasting my time with your delusional fantasy.”
“Fine let’s go see the Head Mistress then, and we’ll see who’s delusional or not,” Hermione replied as she crossed her arms over her chest and marched out of the room.
”Of course.”
The young man raised his eyebrow when she agreed to see the Head Mistress instead of the Head Master. She was obviously quite delusional, but it was obvious that she was a witch and not some Muggle who had wandered into the school. He wasn’t quite sure what to make of her or her story. All he knew was that he had been cleaning cauldrons for Professor Slughorn when she had suddenly appeared on the floor unconscious. One moment the storeroom floor had been empty and the next there had been a girl on it. A girl whom he had tripped over, which had caused him to collide with the door, Severus rubbed at his nose as he followed the girl out of the storeroom. At first he had thought she was a Gryffindor trick until he realized that she didn’t attend Hogwarts. Then he became worried that a young girl in a Hogwarts uniform had suddenly appeared in Hogwarts. All he knew was that he was as confused as she seemed by her and her sudden appearance. He didn’t doubt that the Head Master would be able to clear up the whole situation, although he had the sinking feeling that he would be punished for it somehow.
