1. Only 36 hours until I get to buy the Veronica Mars and Arrested Development DVDs! Yes, it's Holy Tuesday in Alannaland. A tip for those who want to get one or both: Target has VM for $40 and AD for $28... but if you take the Target ad to Circuit City, they have a Price Match Guarantee that will get you both for Target's price, along with an additional 10% discount. Whee! Anything to alleviate my Holy Tuesday debt is very welcomed.

2. Rob Thomas has posted on his website a DVD commentary for the Veronica Mars pilot. It's hard to track down -- go to Veronica Mars > Downloads > Downloads, and it'll automatically open in a new window; I can only get it to stream, not save as an mp3. Alas. I'm listening to it now -- Rob's voice makes me giggle, but in a good way. Promise!

  • The kids at Neptune High in the first scenes are actual students from Oceanside HS in San Diego, who came out on Saturday to play extras. Coolness.
  • Much love for the Dandy Warhols, which makes me love Rob even more. Have I mentioned I'm a big ol' Dandys fan? And have I mentioned how excited I am to see Courtney Taylor-Taylor's karaoke cameo this Wednesday? ;)
  • Rob wanted Veronica's apartment complex to look like "the Karate Kid apartment". Hee! Oh, and they'd planned to use Coldplay's "Don't Panic" in the Backup-on-the-beach scene, but Coldplay wouldn't let 'em. Damn you, Chris Martin!
  • Aww, he and Darren Norris (the guy who plays Cliff) have been friends since they were 3 years old, though they lost touch for many years while growing up.
  • Casting Enrico Colantoni "was my finest moment". Which is 100% correct. Rico's marvelous. Amanda Seyfried was a pleasant surprise for him. "When you cast someone who's supposed to show up from time to time as 'the dead girl', you don't get a huge caliber of actors." She was so great, though, that they ended up using her much more than they'd expected.
  • Francis Capra hated the "Weevil love you long time" line. Hmph.
  • Shelley Pomroy is named after a woman he went to high school with, and the actress who plays Madison Sinclair is the real-life Shelley's sister. Hee!
  • Aha! He confirmed (even though I didn't need it confirmed) that Shelley's party is actually filmed at the Kane estate, because they couldn't afford to rent a separate house.
  • "Jason Dohring is a very intense actor. We had to do several takes to get one in which he didn't look like he was physically overpowering the principal to come after Veronica."
  • Adam and Eddie, the firefighters, are named after two friends of his who are now writers on Lost. "So they're struggling but getting by on that other show you may have heard of." ;) I did giggle at Damon Lindelof's comments about how he loves VM and that they'd happily send VM a few million of Lost's Wednesday night viewers. If only. *sigh*
  • They cut a scene from "Leave It to Beaver" in which Veronica and Keith go to the sheriff's office to tell him about Logan's blown alibi, but Lamb dismisses them. Keith then tells Lamb, "Why don't you go see the wizard and ask for some brains?"
  • The day they filmed the final beach scene was very gray and humid, and "for a bit of continuity fun, you can watch Kristen's hair and see how it loses poofiness throughout the day."
  • Ooh, he talks about David Garza, AND he pronounces it correctly -- "Dah-VEED". ;) I know nobody else cares about that, but he used to play shows at Trinity University in San Antonio when I went there in the earlyish '90s, so I always got a little thrill out of hearing him on VM.
  • They changed the scripted scene with the safe, then reused the original version in the later episode (can't remember which) when Veronica opens the safe and gets splattered by the ink.
  • Rob: "Well, I made it to the end of the episode. Keep watching. Get a Nielsen box!" ;) Aww. That was fun, especially since Rob's said that hearing his own voice freaks him out. I really, really wish he'd do more commentaries. C'mon, it wasn't hard! You can do it, Rob!

3. I've officially given up on knitting, though my sister (hi, psychomab!) promises to teach me next time I'm in Dallas. I have, however, become a crocheting fiend. Last night I finished my first scarf -- my digicam's all fuzzy, alas, and that's a glass-topped coffee table with a shelf underneath, hence the illusion of the scarf floating in air -- and now I'm working on one for musing_mia's birthday, using a fuzzy darkish red yarn. Might just keep it for myself. ;)

4. In more depressing news, turns out we won't be going to India over Christmas after all. Airfare's too damn expensive. Alas. I'm thoroughly bummed out, but such is life.

5. Gonna be a busy week at school. Grades are due Tuesday, though in a rare show of productivity, I've finished most of them. Conference Week starts next Monday -- the kids get out two hours early each day, and we use the extra time for parent conferences, so I have to plan for that. And, to top things off, construction on the new 6th grade wing is done, and we teachers now have until next Monday to move all our junk over there... but without any extra time in the day to move (not to mention manage grades and conference planning.) FUN.

6. Filling up my teensy little Hyundai Elantra today cost $42 (and no snarking about how gas prices are higher elsewhere, okay?) When I called my parents, Dad told me to stop driving so much. Hmph. I drive tons; I just don't go very far. In the two years since I bought it, I've racked up a grand total of 14,000 miles. My six-mile daily commute certainly helps.

7. The weather is sloooooowly starting to get a wee bit cooler, and the leaves are changing. WHEE! I *love* autumn in Georgia. :)
