Advent 2024 - Day 1

Dec 01, 2024 22:28

Blogging-wise Advent is a really easy time because a) I don't have to think of a subject line for 4 entire weeks and b) I can use the same icon for all those 4 weeks. What can I say? It's balm for my tired mind not to have to decide these two things every day. *g*

Today was another one of those "let's scandalize Grandma" Sundays, as I had a lot of work to do.

First I had to take down the washing that had actually managed to dry during the night. The advantage of central heating: it dries out the air so much. Not so good for the respiratory system perhaps, but definitely good for the washing.

Then I baked three different sorts of cookies: Cashew-coconut balls, Coffee-cocoa cookies and Baci di Dama, Italian cookies filled with chocolate; only that I used walnuts instead of almonds because I've already baked lots of things with almonds.

Then I collapsed for an hour and took a nap. After that I cooked lunch (chicken wings baked in the oven, with mashed potatoes) and started on the fourth batch of cookies of the day, which were Vanillekipferl - only that my recipe requires more butter than the chefkoch.de one.

While the Vanillekipferln were baking, I did the icing and decorating of the other cookies. At some time in-between we also watched "The Repair Shop" - it was an episode we had already seen a year or two ago but sill enjoyed. Afer the last batch of cookies was baked and dutifully rolled in icing sugar, I took another break to write a few lines. picowrimo might have ended yesterday, but I'm still trying to write at least something each day.

Writing done, I went over to crafting. Our extemely talkative chiropodist lady is coming tomorrow, and we always exchange small gifts with her around Christmas. So I took the cardboard box of Mum's new alarm clock and decorated it in a fitting manner (pic coming up tomorrow). I'll fill it with cookies and add a little angel figurine.

So, this was another busy Sunday. We didn't forget that it was the 1st of Advent, too. I took down the ragged old Advent wreath from the wardrobe, together with the Nativity scene (complete with illumination and a music box) that we had bought in Graz countless years ago, and even lit a candle. Oh, and hung the fairly bizarre Santa head that I made of an old CD on the entrance door, so I'd say we're suitably Christmassy all right. *g*
