This is lovely. I really like how mysterious Giles is to Daniel, even after they become lovers.

A small little quibble, however. Sumerian doesn't use runes, and there are literary texts out there in addition to UrIII economic texts. If you ever need any info on any Mesopotamian language or culture for a longer fic, feel free to ask.

And I guess I should have told you what they DID use instead of runes. *slaps forehead* The Sumerians used cuneiform, wedge-shaped writing that was pressed into clay tablets. It's all lines and angles and triangles, quick and easy to write in clay but a pain in the butt to hand write out with pen and paper. However, Sumerian has a lyrical quality that would be very useful for flirting. (My professor used to call it "the Scooby Doo language," because it's rather repetitive.

Looking through my grammar book, most examples have to deal with building temples or destroying enemies, but here's a nice sample:

sal sha-ngu na-an-ga-a-ma-ab-be-e-a na-i-ga-mu-nga-be-e-a
